the difference is that the federation here has shown they have absolutely no clue.

if one guy is going to act like a prat, but you end up with something that can help contribute to the game, is it that bad?
Ask Melbourne City and their fans. They all seem very happy to be rid of him.

That's more to do with his demands of City, not of the FFA.

Why does Alonso need to be upgraded on?

Just stupid
Because he’s incredibly slow, can’t beat a press and sides target that left side regularly. The fact he’s our only genuine LWB/LB is laughable.
Sounds like we'll be wasting our time chasing Sandro again. Wouldnt mind us having a crack at Telles or Shaw instead.
Wouldn’t say it’s wasting our time. He’s refusing to sign a new deal so he’s definitely gettable. Just depends who else is after him. United are a worry. City don’t need him so that means they will 100% be after him. Probably PSG as well.

well that's also easy to do when fornaroli is around as well. i'll happily take him at adelaide.

Cahill is a self righteous piece of shit, I'll be very happy if another A-League side takes him, means he can derail them.

would make a nice change from the board doing it constantly.

TBH its stupider running him into the ground like we are rather than adding adding depth/rotation/competition to a very important position in the shape we play.
Alex Sandro is not a depth type of player though

Obviously, He would be the starter out of the two LWB's we would have and giving us great depth/rotation/competition which as you would know you need if you want to win anything.

We either need to upgrade players/positions or add competition to these spots. It's not a bad thing.

Imo if you got him then Alonso would want out

TBH if you had the choice of Alonso or Sandro who would you choose?
Sandro only because he's fast and he knows how to play in a wingback formation also, but not much between the two and Alonso is PL proven and is very well rounded imo though, decent peg on him, even if he's a little slow because he's tall for a left back.

Alonso is not the type of player you'd leave squandered on the pine for large periods.

Alex Sandro is fairly overrated sometimes. He stands out because there's not many quality LBs around right now (Rose for 50 million? Give me a spell). You'd only pick Sandro over Alonso for the speed factor.

Getting a guy like Betrand would be better if I were Chelsea because he's homegrown, a former player and has experience in the PL. AS could very well be Cuadrado 2.0 in the Prem.

Nonsense. Alonso has had maybe one good game this season and that’s it. Every other game he has ranged between poor and average. At times he has almost been Ivanovic 15/16 levels of bad.

I am convinced you haven’t watched us at all this season because your opinion of him is dated. He has been worked out. Opponents have been going at him all season with the ball and his defending has been utterly woeful. Without the ball no one ever bothers marking him because they know he’s so easy to close in on and is extremely clumsy in possession. Don’t get me started on his crossing. It’s like he lost all technical ability over the off-season.

On top of all that, he has been run into the ground (as chef mentioned). Conte got away with playing limited players such as Alonso and Moses last season but it’s just not working anymore. They are being exposed as the truly average players that they are. The cracks began to show in the second half of last season. Every Chelsea supporter on here was calling for new wingbacks in the transfer period and we were absolutely desperate to sign some. There was a reason for that.

I don’t watch Sandro often but from what I have seen of him I can tell he’s in another stratosphere to Marcos Alonso. I’m also not sure how Cuadrado is relevant either. We brought him in to play as an attacker and the only opportunity he got at Chelsea was to play in attack. And just like KdB and Salah, he was pissed off too early.

As for Bertrand, “PL proven” has got to be the biggest myth line of all time. A lot of the best signings this season (and in previous seasons) have been players with no or limited PL experience. There are also many cases of English players going from one club to another after being labelled as “proven” and failing dismally. It seems like the only people who use the “PL proven” line are the ones who are looking to justify spending an extra 25% on a player who was purchased off another PL team.

Your defence in general hasn't been crash hot this season, although I do recognise that Alonso wasn't what he was last season. Problem is, and chef touched on it a few times, is that he's got no backup. Do remember that he played for my mob once so I know what he's like. He isn't a 3 game a week player, but there's no one else who Conte trusts for the role (why Conte doesn't use Rahman confuses me tbh. Forgot about him completely).

I agree that Moses is average and he should've been replaced adequately (me and quite a few others here said that Rudiger isn't a RWB). Alonso on the other hand isn't average, but he does need support/backup/competition.

Cuadrado is the wrong example when comparing with AS, so I'll go with Filipe Luis instead. Won't do much and will just be an expensive LB flop. Sandro looks good because of the system he's in (same with Cuadrado and a few others Juve have had over the years). He won't be much of an upgrade over Alonso if you get him.

Lastly, I've said a few times that I think Saed Kolasinac has been the standout LB of the year. How many years did he spend in the Prem before Arsenal brought him? I'm not exactly enamoured by people who rant about "PL proven" as a necessity when you see guys like Richarlison, Salah and Morata tear it up this year, but when you need a backup LB/LWB, PL proven isn't a bad trait to look for. Aside from that, Bertrand has been ultra consistent since joining the Saints and would cost significantly less than Sandro. I don't see where your lot go wrong by getting a former player who's versatile as a LB, LWB and CB over someone who's in a similar age bracket and can only say he's got speed.

Wouldn't it be better for your lot to pay an arm and a leg if it means no more Moreno?

Moreno has been excellent this season (apart from the second half vs Sevilla!). Klopp is happy with him and Robertson as his LB options. Most LFC fans expected Moreno to leave as soon as Robertson was signed but to his credit he has turned around his LFC career.

Van Dijk & Keita are the 2 players we need, one of which is already signed.

Felipe was always quality but he was just another player that Mourinho didn’t completely trust or have patience with (there were many). Azpillicueta and Ivanovic were never going to be displaced from that title-winning side either. Rahman is coming off a serious knee injury. I haven’t been following his progress closely but apparently he’s “nearing full fitness” after being eleven months out of the game. He will be rusty and I highly doubt he will be considered a serious option any time soon. He also has never been rated internally from what I hear.

I’m just not sold on Alonso. Last season he was good against the bad sides but would be cut to pieces against the good sides. This season he’s bad against both. I would love him as a squad option because that’s all he should be at a club that is challenging (or at least attempting to) on all fronts. As you mentioned before there is a serious lack of quality full backs at the moment and the fact that Alonso is rated so highly in the PL is a reflection of the dross going around in the league right now, not because he’s some world class superstar.

If we could get Bertrand for a reasonable price then I would be all for it but unfortunately Liverpool have ruined Southampton for everyone and they will want some ridiculous fee for him. I feel that money would be better well spent on Sandro, even if there is more apparent risk involved.

Nobody on here will ever rate Moreno. Once a player has a reputation on BF, it will not change despite the fact Moreno has been very good this season.

True. Took about 48 months of playing well before many on here clued on to Rose and Walker not being average.
