Well they won't get him otherwise. If we've already turned down Icardi I think it means we're being serious.

Pehaps throwing Alexis in as a sweetner might help Inter open the wallet up a bit more.

It's not really the AFL.

No real point in being excited to play the kids when your a club like Chelsea unless they are potentially world class.

You'd rather just buy those potentially world class kids.

There's absolutely no credit in world football for developing your own.

Who really gives a **** about Southampton, or gave a **** about West Ham of old or Ajax.....

With the ban my expectations are different this season.

We do have WC kids as shown by our Youf results that are second to none.

Its yet to be seen if theyll turn into WC seniors but I'll enjoy the journey.

You’ve misinterpreted my point. Our recent managers have been stubbornly opposed to playing youth. I highly doubt an English manager would ignore our academy products the way these foreign managers have. What Roman and the board does is irrelevant in this discussion. I’m talking purely from a manager’s perspective. English managers are more likely to be invested into the progression and development of younger English/academy players.

Not if the board demand a trophy in his first season to avoid the sack.

My point is that it doesn’t matter what nationality the manager is, survival season to season has and will continue to take precedence over youth development for any manager in that environment.

Messi, Suarez, Griezmann, Dembele & Coutinho.

Frightening set of options for their front 3. Do they keep them all?
On paper yes, but in reality they all want the starting spot i reckon countinho and dembele are on the way out.

Considering that Barca runs at a loss because of their ever growing wage bill and continued failures in the UCL in recent times, they need to sell.

Coutinho will almost certainly have to be one of those sales because selling squad players and guys they've sent out on loan won't pay for De Jong, Griezmann and anyone else they want to sign

Would happily take Dembele, would be lethal on the RW.

But this is just a made up hypothetical and there’s no evidence to suggest our board demands trophies from managers in their first season. We aren’t what we used to be. Mourinho didn’t win a trophy with us in his first season the second time round and was sacked after two and a half seasons due to player revolt. Conte fell out with the board due to not getting the players he wanted in the transfer market and he too lost the dressing room and was consequently sacked. Sarri is going to leave on his own accord. They all left shortly after winning trophies. What does that tell you? Roman might be trigger happy, but lack of trophies isn’t the primary cause of manager sackings at Chelsea these days. The common denominator is player fallout. There is an element of pressure on managers to succeed at Chelsea but you’re exaggerating it. All of these guys had the opportunity to play our youth but they were stubbornly reluctant for the most part.

I’m not arguing against this. I’m just suggesting English managers would be more inclined to develop and integrate our academy players. Believe it or not, but it’s possible to do it without catastrophic consequences. Plus the fact you’re acting like managers wouldn’t survive had they occasionally played our academy players tells me you have little idea about our squad. As soon as guys like CHO, RLC and Christensen came in this season, we instantaneously looked better. Even Ampadu looked more capable than some of the dross we have regularly starting for us.

L'Equipe reporting De Ligt's favoured destination is now Liverpool.

Huge if true.

Could you point me to this info as I can't find it.

Everything pointing at him signing with Paris. Is there a link for the Liverpool stuff?

Raiola has come out and said it's fake news that he is meeting with anyone at PSG.

I’d be happy enough going into next season with VVD, Matip, Gomez and Lovren as our CBs if they all manage to stay fit.

If we sell Lovren though, that forces our hand and we’d have to go in and buy someone.
