85 million for Maguire is crazy. The world's most expensive defender. I mean would he even rate in the top 20-30 CBs in the world?

Uh yes, easily.

Dunno about that, if it's just about elimination you could quite easily bring clubs like Everton, Leicester, Wolves etc. There's clubs with money that might think he can get them into CL. If we're talking about process of elimination then we'd also be out because of no need for his role and that 20-30mil on a loan does not fit in our budget (I doubt we're amortising a loan).

I’m stealing @Zidane98’s joke here, but is it possible to Afterpay a loan fee? If anyone can do it, it will be Arsenal.

Didn't Rojo almost go to Everton last Jan for 30mil? Smalling could be worth that in this market and Jones could be 40mil.
I'm sorry RossFC, but they'd be lucky to get 10M for Phil Jones ATM.

Only redeeming feature is that he's English for the home grown quota, but that's it really.

I think Rojo will do a job for us when he does play. Losing Bailly for as long as he is out will hurt depth with Rojo not being the healthiest footballer in the world. Need for Maguire and Lindelof to stay on the park.

I would turf Smalling and Jones out of the club quick smart. How they’ve both survived at United so long is actually remarkable. 9 and 8 years in the first team respectively. WTF?

'The Chuckle Brothers' have become a bit of a meme but the reality is quite different IMO. Neither are good enough to start at this level but are perfectly adequate depth options (provided they can stay fit), I'd even go as far as saying Smalling is an excellent third choice CB.

I'd sooner ship off Rojo and Bailly. Rojo is a complete and utter liability as he's always injured and when he isn't he's a red card waiting to happen. Bailly had a very promising debut season but hasn't come close to it since. He's always injured and seems to have a serious brain fade every time he takes the field.

Smalling and Jones are unfashionable but they've been much more reliable over the last couple of years IMO.

i think the only way it works is if we're going to move walker to cb, otherwise i dont see him displacing walker on the flank.

dont really rate cancelo but i think he's better than danilo, but danilo has been reliable for us and i cant blame him going looking for more gametime.

Excellent that they avoided the buy-back.

even if they hadn't. there's probably some sort of gentleman's agreement between the two, but to get someone this talented in at that price is tremendous in this day and age.

credit to kean as well, shows he clearly wants to play.

The early talk was they wanted a 40mil buyback put in place on a 30mil purchase which was head shaking that either they wanted it or somebody made it up.
