Sancho out, Haaland and Havertz in. Where do I sign?

Never said it does, but you’re more likely to succeed when you have cash to throw around. Look at Chelsea, PSG, Man City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, etc. Liverpool and United butchering signings doesn’t detract from what other clubs have been able to achieve with their resources.

It’s no coincidence that as soon as you pulled the trigger on your big money signings in VVD and Alisson that you truly elevated yourselves into one of the best teams in the world. Without cash you don’t have those two and without those two I don’t think you’d be in the position that you’re in today.

Money doesn’t guarantee success but it certainly helps.
Yeah I don't think we'd be where we are without selling Coutinho for 150mil to fund those transfers.

I think you missed the point. Liverpool have always had money. Not United money or Chelsea money or City money but we're certainly not poor.

Yet we've always spent so poorly. Edwards and Klopp have turned that round and have just nailed transfer after transfer after transfer.

Edwards has been sensational.

Yeah I don't think we'd be where we are without selling Coutinho for 150mil to fund those transfers.

I think that is the key point though. It is strategy that Liverpool have got right, not spending. All big clubs spend - but a lot of the time they buy the wrong pieces.

Liverpool lost their best midfielder and replaced him with a centre back and keeper. Coutinho has still not been replaced really unless you count Keita or Ox who are get to have the same impact.

I think the highlight of Liverpool’s transfers is how clear and how good the strategy has been and how aligned it is with what the manager is doing and how the team plays.

That certainly was not happening at Liverpool 10 years ago.

So defensive and I don’t think you’ve interpreted my post correctly. I’m suggesting that perhaps five years ago Liverpool would’ve scoffed at breaking world record fees on a GK and a CB, regardless of where the money came from. This time round you didn’t and it’s paying dividends.

No dude. You’ve in fact missed the point of my post. See above.

Are you guys so used to getting trolled that you even take compliments the wrong way?

At the time, Carroll was the eighth most expensive footballer in history. If you adjusted that fee for inflation you’re probably looking at a £90m transfer in today’s money.

The £20-25m a piece we paid for Downing, Aquilani and Suarez is probably equivalent to £50-60m in 2018/19. Benteke, similar story.

You get the idea. We’ve been making ‘big money signings’ for years.
I don’t consider them the same magnitude of VVD and Alisson. You broke records for those two. Spending that type of money on a defender and a goalkeeper was unprecedented. Lots of clubs often burn big money on attacking players.

5 years ago we were in a similar position from selling Suarez (Although it was half the money Coutinho went for) and we got guys like Lambert, Lallana, Markovic, Balotelli and Moreno in that summer. Maybe part of it was Rodgers not being able to attract a higher shelf of player.

Maybe. You challenged for the league back then though and were playing an attractive brand of football for a traditionally big club, so Rodgers would’ve had some pull. Playing for Klopp is a different proposition though.

I don't think Rodgers had any pull at all to be honest. The media had churned out that we were Suarez FC. And with him gone... nobody wanted to come play for us. He just simply wasn't a big enough name in the management game. He had to go away and come back now with Leicester to make people realise hes actually a really good manager.

But yeah he's no Klopp that's for sure!

This was a good article about Rogers at Liverpool recently - https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...-city-celtic-fsg-john-henry-epl-a9142616.html

My take from the article is that all parties were simply not on the same page and to succeed they need to be.
