How come. It's literally discrimination based on nationality/race innit?

It's structured to get around discrimination laws. Clichy, Fabregas etc were home grown, Dier isn't IIRC.

What about him?

He signed for less than 1/3 of the fee and in no way was close to a superstar of the championship in 2017. He was a bench player for Sheff Utd that started 9 games for the season.

More akin to a Jack Clarke signing on potential than Watkins.

Bournemouth should take credit for the talent ID and then the development of him.
And he was prolific in the PL. I was pointing to a player who stepped up well since you're so insistent most turn to shit.

This is pointless. It's not a ridiculous fee and I'm not sure why you're so worked up over it.

Again, misquoting.

I'm over discussing anything further with you if you simply keep resorting to writing fabrications because you have no valid argument.

I never said no players ever develop from the Championship and most turn to shit, that is ridiculous inference.

I've simply said you can't expect a similar output from players who haven't played at the PL before. I would say the same thing about most of our squad.

Aston Villa has smashed their transfer fee record on a player who, unless he bucks the historical trend of these types of forwards out of the Championship, is very likely to be a 6-10 goal scorer this season.

If you think that is a good deal, great.

I don't.

Watkins is probably worth about £10-15m in reality in most other countries.

So overall thoughts on Bowen / Watkins etc.

In some ways, I think the lower PL clubs have somewhat of a "premium" to pay on players, especially if they're home-grown. What I mean by that, if you look at the top spenders over the 3-4 years, clubs like Brighton make the top 5.

And those sorts of clubs can't attract top players, but with the extra TV Rights Money, to stay in the Premier League they have to pay overs some of the time. Would Spurs pay 28M for Watkins ultimately? I'd be doubtful, but they're also more likely to use say an academy player such as Troy Parrott as a backup. A team like Villa can't really do that with say a Kelvin Davis, he's not PL Quality.

If anything, it makes me more annoyed that we only sold Diangana for 18M after the season he had, but I guess strikers are at a bit more of a premium also sometimes. I think Watkins is probably worth 20 - 25M in the current market, but for a team like Villa who have money to spend, they can do that. He should also have re-sale value which is something else important to note.

On Jarrod Bowen, 1 goal in 12 may not look very good, that said I think he hit the post a few times, once against Arsenal I remember. I think West Ham fans were more impressed by say his work rate and tracking back vs. the likes of Felipe Anderson for instance. I definitely wouldn't say he looks like a bust or anything, I think he's capable of getting 10 goals this season at least if all goes well, that said, playing under Moyes with say 40 percent possession a match will limit his opportunities a bit also, so you have to take that into consideration a bit.

Does it? He had a pretty good season. Pretty much on par with Bowen who only went for maybe 5-8m less but with less remaining on his contract.

Maupay went for around 20 million and had put in 28 that season.

Same club, same age, almost the same amount of goals. Seems a bit over the odds in the covid climate.

With that line of thinking he'll be stuck collecting wages & playing golf in Spain. Not like he cant get a 200k/ week contract out of Spurs, they could also pay him a signing on fee if RM let him go on a free transfer. He is not going to get his RM wages at Spurs either

way.

Exclusive: Real Madrid willing to pay half of Gareth Bale's wages to facilitate departure

Hope he’s got his cheque book ready

Why? Dortmund set a deadline that passed. They wouldn't go back on that.

Real Madrid are paying him £350,000 a week. He’s not worth £175,000 a week on any clubs wage bill. Bale should have left Madrid 2 years ago, now he might be stuck there.

I reckon there'd be takers on a free paying £175k a week.

I suppose on a free it could happen. Bale has to lower his wage demands because it is £15M a year. No one is paying that apart from his current club.

Not home grown and had a year less left on his deal.

It is what it is but the histrionics from Pykie are a bit out of sync here.

What's Bale realistically worth? 30-40m? On a free a few clubs would happily pay a larger percentage of his current wage over the next two years.
I'd take him on a free at the wage.. especially given we have Iwobi. I know who's better.

No he doesn't. He can't get paid half from rm , half from new club

Would you walk away from a 100m contract?

Bale could easily pocket a signing on fee to compensate him partially for the difference. It's no longer a 100m contract, there's only 2 years left. And yes, if I was Bale's age I would be wanting to play as much as possible at the highest possible level even if that meant taking a reduction on wages to 200k/week.

The other option is China where it wouldn't be too difficult for Bale to get the wages he is on now and possibly even a pay rise.

Son - Kane - Bale ...
I’ll let you know when someone offers me a 100 million dollar contract.

But you have to play heaps of golf and chill with Ronaldo. Modric. Zidane. ETC.
