I've never heard of any link between Rawlings and Geelong. What's the story there?
From what I remember we were overusing Mooney as a ruck, defender and forward and needed to find players to fill holes. Rawlings in 03 was heavily chased but missed out. Year later nabbed Ottens and the rest is history.

Every season is different & presents with it's own unique set of challenges…..Yes, you've been consistently good for 2 seasons now, but City still beat you in the title race last time round....You blokes had so much to prove & make-up for this season.

To suggest that any of the other Big 5 clubs won't be pushing you for all it's worth next year is just footballing naivete & silliness.
Disagree. I think the only two teams in the title race next season will be City and Liverpool. United, Chelsea and if you want to count Arsenal and Spurs are miles off yet.

I don't think United and Chelsea are that far off, Chelsea have already improved immensely and the market isn't officially open.
If United sign Sancho they'll have a very good team, and they'll also make some other purchases, and prior to covid we saw how much better they were with Fernandes joining.

jod23 you have a huge tendency to talk down other teams, United mostly and not sure if you're genuinely clueless about these sides or simply projecting your own worries about them catching up.

Chelseas title to lose next season with all the money they are spending.

Strange. Three weeks later was the Veale deal.

It's really not all that much, they have Ziyech for a good fee and they have Werner for an amazing fee.

I think united has looked pretty good since Bruno has come in

Main problem is we move to slow needed a right back for 3 years finally sign one, need a creative mid took us ages to sign one

I just cant see United being anywhere near the title race. What makes you think they would suddenly be in with a shout? And let's not include if's and but's like if they buy Sancho. We can discuss that if it happens but it hasn't and he isn't part of the squad.

United have won just 12 games this season. 12.

This is your 7th season post SAF, you've qualified for the CL just twice in seven attempts and not once, despite finishing 2nd in 17/18 have you been close to the title. Even that year you weren't in the race as City won the league by a record margin.

19/20 - 5th
18/19 - 6th
17/18 - 2nd
16/17 - 6th
15/16 - 5th
14/15 - 4th
13/14 - 7th

I don't really rate Ole as a manager and I don't think the squad is anywhere near capable of winning or competing for a title. Not enough goals in the team, a little bit shady at the back. DDG no longer the wall he used to be and the midfield is pretty average outside of Bruno. Pogba is talented but is an enigma.

I'm not clueless about United I just cant see where the improvement comes from to suddenly close a 40 point gap. You need more time into Greenwood, Rashford hasn't really come on like he was expected to yet and you've still got blokes pretending to be footballers on the list like Lingard, Phil Jones and Shaw. Matic and Mata are both well on the decline as well.

United need major investment. You need IMO three or four big money signings or at least signings that just work. You dont need to spend 75 on a VVD for example, we got guys like Mane and Salah for less than 40. But you just need to spend the right money and you need a big injection of talent to compete with the likes of City or Liverpool.

Why do you think you can challenge? I'm willing to listen and see your point of view.

I mean those league finishes aren't exactly that far removed from Liverpool outside of the last two seasons. So going by your own logic United are primed to finally challenge for the title, 4,4,8,6,2,7,8,6,7.

Some of our signings over the last year have been some of our best, AWB is probably in the top 3 best RBs in the game and Maguire is a sold enough CB although we overpaid. DDG is completely fine and even if he wasn't we have quality in Henderson to come in, Fernandes has been amazing, our strike force is in great shape, really there isn't that many weaknesses in our starting 11, I don't see James as being a starter on the RW and that would be the only hole I see. Outside of the starting 11 we have issues in the depth with some players who should be nowhere near the team but we have some solid youth coming through so not overly concerned.

But as we all know United are willing to spend the cash and the club is clearly heading into the direction of smart buys over the flashy big name players. Quality youth.

Alexis returning on the RW?

Yeah, every team goes through down years just look at Liverpool prior to the last 2 seasons like pantsredacted said. Last 28 seasons what did Liverpool do outside of one champions league title?

You should know as a Liverpool fan changing managers every couple of years players have to get used to different systems and adapt to what the manager wants as well as new and old players coming in and out. Ole isn't world-class but has potential though by having beaten the big teams except for Liverpool but nonetheless got a result from one match with a semi-half decent squad as we were riddled with injuries he has done a decent job I feel for what he has to work with. The biggest improvement he has done is brought attacking football back. The same could be said with Chelsea obviously they won the Europa league but IMO Lampard has them playing better football.

So 7 years without an EPL title because that seems to be the case for your argument is somewhat better than 30 years.

Pre Klopp very much so. But once Klopp came in you could see the gradual improvement. AWB is a very good defender but he's really average going forward which is a big asset in full back in today's game. He needs to improve massively on that side of things. Outside of AWB, I dont think your defence is very good and needs a couple of big buys to sort that out.

Your starting XI is pretty good but again if you put that starting XI up against City or Liverpool, well it just falls short. How many players do you think United have that would get into either City or Liverpool's XI. Not many... Pogba when at his best but that's rare. That would be about it. DDG has even fallen off now and you wouldnt consider him in front of either Edison or Alisson.

I do think the starting XI is good, top six good for sure, as you pointed out, your strength is depth is quite poor. A lot of work to be done for United still. Certainly wont challenge for the league IMO anytime soon, certainly not next season.

Ok, I'll skip next season.

My argument isnt really 7 years without the title, I'm just saying you havent challenged at all since SAF left and having a great manager is massively important in winning trophies and United simply dont have a great one. Ole is ok but he's not going to be the next great manager IMO. There simply isnt enough quality through the squad to be able to challenge.

You guys are saying I dont know anything about United, but I see so much of United in old Liverpool sides. We used to have a few great players holding up a bunch of shite ones. You look back at those United teams that dominated and they had a world class player in almost every position. That's similar to what Liverpool have now and what City have and that wins you titles.

Ok, I'll skip next season.
I never said skip next season. But I just dont think you will be in the title race. Still plenty to play for including making steps to eventually challenge for the league I guess. Of course I hope that never happens haha.
