I appreciate you’ve been starved of quality the last few years and it’s exciting he’s playing well, but most seasons there’s at least one signing having this sort of impact somewhere in the league.

A lot of big clubs can get away with doing this if the wages are not too high (no idea what Matic's is), they can still flog him off somewhere else mid-contract.

I reckon this is great management from Arteta. Guendouzi is another one of those fake passion merchants like Jack Wilshere who basically starts fights to mask his deficiencies as a footballer, and to get the fans onside because they get tricked in to thinking it means they care about the club. Arsenal fans were getting conned again by this crap but luckily for them Arteta sees right through it. He's doing a really good job so far.

Well it's an extended deal, still had a year left on the current deal which was triggered, really not sure what's surprising by it, he is a DM and playing extremely well, like GKs, DMs are still going strong well into the 30s.

I don't get the rush to extend then and by so much. It's a much better deal for Matic than United unless he's on peanuts.

They will eventually buy a dm or defensive cm, (post Sancho...) and matic is an Excellent back up on current form anyway.

They have a very young squad too: the loan army is probably sold. The serb adds good experience
