Personally I'd rather play for less than play golf for more.

What he does is up to him.

So much this. Nothing stopping Bale from sitting on the perhipery for the next 2 years until his contract expires collecting his wages. I suspect he would rather be playing somewhere regularly and if he wants to do that at a club like Spurs he'll need to take a hit on wages. If he did I am sure he will manage just fine on 200k/week wages - with a likely big signing on fee slapped on top.
