We are not talking Szczesny or Sanchez or Adams or about run-of-the-mill-players, with all due respect to those guys, we are talking about Maradona and he is in a league of his own and only those, with all due respect, who have some kind of beef with him as a bloke or whatever could possibly say that he isn't the greatest player to have ever played the game. Maybe those people have only got the ravings of those who saw him to go on because they haven't had the privilege of watching him play games on the telli even? I don't know, but I do know that watching Maradona was a religious experience and I'm an atheist for f***k's sake! I know it's hard for people to understand but he was not of this world.
I understand what you mean by subjectivity when it comes to other players but Maradona isn't just another player. I really do wish I could have taken you with me to see him Cruffy, he'd have blown your brains even when he was having an "average" game by his standards, even when the rest of the Napoli side or the Argentinian side were playing crap: he shone out like a beacon and yes, he was better than Johan - one of my all time favourite players.
When Barcelona are playing crap, Messi is anonymous. He's not grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck, he's not running after "no hope" balls setting the example for his team mates. He's doing f**k all!

He'd have been a far better player if he actually ran for his team mates. Do you guys just ignore his performances at the World Cup do you? He was embarrassing and for people to call him the greatest of all time is cringe worthy.
The mongrels that couldn't play played like that and the good ones had to preserve their own lives - referees didn't give a toss.
The game today is far better because players have a chance to play football and show their wares without being butchered to kingdom come.

All forwards when not in the play do have a walk around, just like defenders but in Ronaldo's case, when the play has engaged him, he's in and at it and works his guts out - he tracks back, he tackles, he hunts. Again, have a look at Ronaldo's output for his team and compare that to Messi.

For Portugal he refuses to move unless his team has the ball. Even then only if he feels like it.
Football is more than graft and running. This is why the English suck at it.
