I assume psg say no (?)

If they are confident of Neymar (and mbappe) signing new contracts (??)
I always thought Neymar wanted to go back to Barca too so felt like it could be a good opportunity for both but he’d obviously go to City instead.

Would be funny to see Messi and Ronnie link up at Juve though.

It looks like Bartomeu pushed Messi out of the door, but wants to make it look as if that's not the case. I don't know how much money Barcelona makes from Messi being there, but with the rebuild and the club needing the money, you'd think they want to sell him, especially knowing that he's only got 2 or 3 seasons left in him. Pretty despicable treatment of the club's best ever player. I also get the idea these presidential elections get in the way of a good long term view. This board knows all too well they'll be gone soon. Koeman's just been hired to do a demolition job. I'm surprised he even took the job.

City offer Messi 5 yr contract

GrantBrebnerFC

Absolutely no chance we'd do a deal where it isn't 100% clear if the price of €0 or €600m.

If Messi wanted to come to us, and we wanted him one of two things would happen.

A binding clear cut decision will be made by the Spanish courts or FIFA that Messi is a free agent, and no transfer fee will apply.

Or we'll come to a deal which is acceptable to us and Barca.

But the thought we'd just bring him in and then hope we don't get a knock on the door isn't even close to reality.

We're not in a position to contract on behalf of other clubs either. There might be a mutual understanding that will be the path for him to take, but Messi can't play for us unless he is contract to us. And that'll be the same for New York.

It's definitely either this.... or he's the greatest footballer of all time.
If you blokes want to delude yourselves and think that Messi is within lightyears of Maradona and you're happy with that, good luck to ya, it just shows how limited your knowledge is but I would like to know, how you guys feel about Messi sulking and storming out of Barcelona because the team lost 8-2? Do you find that's acceptable?

No....Losing 8-2 in a CL final is never acceptable.

So the team loses 8-2 which isn't acceptable and Messi spits the dummy and wants to leave even though the 4th official did more running than him during the game. - that's acceptable?

Messi is a winner....He doesn't want to stay in a team that's no longer winning, obviously.

also....His & Ronaldo's individual records have so far eclipsed anything Maradonna ever did....These 2 blokes are in a league of their own for longevity of excellence.

Messi was an absolute disgrace against Bayern, as he has been during every World Cup campaign he has participated in and if you reckon that a footballer's ability is judged solely on how many trophies he has accumulated, than you are sadly mistaken.

Right throughout history, there have been extraodinary players whose trophy cabinets are bare. That is not the measure of a players ability.

The Messi story is sprawling now eh? The reports were very similar last night, but now it’s chaos! I’ve done a lot of Argentinean media today and the consensus there is that it’s all done and dusted to City, but in Barcelona things look a little harder. In Manchester we wait! [Sam Lee

How many of them put together a 70 goal 20 assist season

Messi pretty well averages a goal a game at the highest level.....That's unheard of.

The only World Cup Maradonna ever won, was when he cheated to handle the ball against the Poms to get there....He was a dirty player & a drug cheat.

Light years? Limited knowledge? You're the deluded one really, being so convinced of your own wisdom and believing you know so much better than lots of people you don't know (be it posters here or analysts and respected journalists who also happen to believe Messi is the goat), just because they have a different opinion or idea.

It's extremely difficult to compare Messi and Maradona, simply because they're players with different skill sets, playing in different eras for different teams and with different teammates and different tactics. You can make a good case for both being the best ever player, just like others can make a case for Pele, or whoever they happen to believe to be the best. But if one things is certain, it's that in this sport, it's practically impossible to pick out one player who's been the best, let alone "clearly" the best, like you seem to believe.

I've been around for a while and in my experience, people often seem to have a preference for a player who was big in a certain time of their life, like a player of their generation, or one they admired in their childhood, or someone they liked for other reasons. Ask a 70 year old Brazilian for his 10 best ever players and he'll most likely pick a number of different players compared to a 30 year old German.

Anyway, Messi has every right to walk out of Barcelona. The current board has completely screwed up the team with bad signings and a lack of investments towards the future, and the team now needs a total rebuild that will probably last 2 or 3 seasons. It's totally understandable Messi doesn't want to waste his last few good years while this is going on, after the board didn't respect him. Too much has happened recently... Signing Griezmann, the stuff with Abidal, Bartomeu hiring a PR company to make himself look good and make some players look bad, the ridiculous Arthur-Pjanic swap, the short phone call to his close friend Suarez to tell him the club doesn't want him anymore... Since Messi's announcement, he's received support from (ex-)teammates and the Barcelona fans. That says it all really.

Liverpool Echo keep running Messi articles and joining Liverpool. Pretty pathetic. Do any Liverpool fans really want Messi ? I don't. We can't afford him too. I'd rather have the front 3 we have than Messi.
I one zillion percent want Messi. But we cant afford like 20 million for Thiago so Messi is a pipedream. There is only one place he ends up and it's at City.

You're willing to f up the team chemistry of mane, Salah, Firmino for a 33+ year old drama queen??? Really??? I love Messi too but nah I wouldn't want him. He can go to city, Juve, inter or psg.

Thank you. I will continue to delude myself.

How I feel about Messi leaving? Well Barcelona clearly are going backwards, Messi only has a few years left and wants to compete for trophies. Thousands of players have done this before him so it's no different. I'd rather him stay with Barcelona though but that looks unlikely.
