I'd take that route in a heartbeat.

If I'm Mooy, I've already played in the best league in the world, played against world class players like Salah, VVD, De Bruyne, Pogba, Kane, the list goes on. Played at iconic stadiums like Anfield, Old Trafford etc... now what to do with the second half of my career, continue to toil away in a small side, trying to avoid relegation and not win anything anyways..... or get a massive pay rise and set myself and my family up for life.

Choice is easy for me. Dont blame him.

Mooy to Shanghai SIPG

Was going to struggle to get much playing time so good move for him to take a big pay day when it presented itself.

Had his moments but could never really stake enough of a claim to be picked every week. Was a good depth player though.

Probably a step up from Brighton with Oscar, Hulk, Arnautovic, Ahmedov and Ricardo Lopes to be fair.

Another Aussie chasing money in China/Middle East despite easily being good enough for a top 4 league.

Shanghai SIPG have some fair internationals.

Good move, cash in, closer to home. Can travel around China dirt cheap, or to other asian nations.

I wouldnt. You only live once. Mooy is quality and at his peak. Play at the highest level you can, take the big pay cheque when you are well into your thirties.

Plus Chinese footballl has been a graveyard for Aussie footballers. Its a terrible move for Mooy. Can only assume that Shanghai are the only club paying what Brightom want for him due to covid.

Whilst I understand the point you’re trying to make, there is however no guarantees that he’d be able to cash in during his thirties. Athletes at this level are just an injury or two away from having their career trajectory compromised.

Personally I don’t mind if someone takes advantage of a big offer like that. If you’re good enough to get those wages, I say go for it.

Theyre insured generally so they are as good as guaranteed. Income in coaching / punditry etc is also there for them after their career finishes.

Also he currently is on 50k/ week plus anyway with a contract until 2023. I cant buy the argument "but this sets him up for life" in Mooy's case. He already is, 10 times over.

He'll get plenty of game time there. Would have been sitting on our bench for most of the season if he stayed.

Also far less travel for international duties.

Aren't there limits on the number of foreign players in match day squads in the CSL?

He counts as an Asian player, which is why the Australian players are sought after.

You are allowed 3 foreigners and 1 AFC foreign player in a match squad.

The nsl could keep a viduka for a season probably due to cultural reasons.

The a league would probably lose an equal talent today to a Belgium u18 side.

The nsl produced the golden generation it can't have been that bad
