Pretty sure he was exaggerating a tad with that post. Obviously he can’t finish 14th, but all this talk of contending next season is a bit unrealistic for mine. Highly doubt Roman pulls the trigger if we finish third or fourth. I think the pressure will be on in 2021/22.
I think you’ll finish top three, no way he gets the chop if that happens.

To do what though? What’s a reasonable expectation?

I think everything you guys are saying is fair, a top 4 finish and good run in the cups should be the aim. Last season the pressure was off completely, but some seem to be suggesting that that's still the case, which I completely disagree with.

What?

Will being doing well to get top 6.

Could quite easily see them pushing for top 4.

Good manager, some quality players.

If Leicester can do it.

Leicester have a prolific goal scorer.
As do all the other sides in the mix.

Richarlison, DCL and Walcott is a step off those teams. 6-10 finish

Sheff Utd's top goal scorer finished with 6 goals this season and they were near the positions for 3qtrs of the season.

I don't think they will do it, but they aren't exactly rank.

A side with Gomez, Rodriguez and Allan in midfield with Richarlison ahead of them is as good as anyone in the next rung.

Weve been here before with Everton after the famous #powershift transfer window of 2017.

This time round their buys do seem more sensible and theres no inflated market which helps. I can see them finishing somewhere from 5th-7th at this stage which would be a successful season for them.
I don't think any Everton fan ever said that when we bought fifteen number 10s

I’m not sure fat frank has the temperament to handle a bad run. He seemed to lose his sh*t in that 5-3 loss to Liverpool

Yeah, don't lump Richarlison in with those other two please. He's class.

I'd expect Kean to get more chances this season too.

Barcelona proving again that they are the most pathetically run club in the world. Imagine treating Messi like this, demanding a ridiculous figure. Ronaldo was allowed to leave for 100m.

For Messi he can sign contract with another team in a few months and will come out of it smelling like roses.

I don't think anyone has an idea of what is going on. Initially I believed he really wanted to leave, but now I think he may sign a new contract. It's possible his threats were an attempt to make Bartomeu step down, and it's also possible he'll want to work with the next president. The election is in March. Messi has a lot to say within the club and has clearly clashed with Bartomeu, who's had no long term vision with the team at all.

Barcelona were never asking 700m for him. If he really intends on leaving, there is no way Barcelona would knock back a good offer for him, knowing he can walk away for free next year.

Yeah there is because the season would have been over June 10 before covid hit. He was just waiting till end of season. You see how Real treated Ronaldo? Look how Bayern treats Thiago (obviously not same calibre of player but they respect what he's done for club) and let them leave

Very different cases. Real didn't want to meet Ronaldo's demands and got good money for him, and I'll be very surprised Bayern is letting Thiago go because they care so much about him and not because they'd rather get some money for him instead of losing him for nothing next year. And Bayern don't even need Thiago, while Messi is bigger than Barcelona.

Anyway, if Messi really wants to leave and City offer decent money (like 150-200m), I think Barcelona would let him go.

Also, Cavani and Meunier left PSG at June 30th, not after the CL final "when the season finished". Why would it be different for Messi? Either Messi was just trying to put pressure on the board, or his dad should've hired a (better) lawyer.

we shall see.
Outside the top 4 the rest of the teams are a bit trash, but Carlos a good manager and i like their signings.

I think they'll go alright.
Both Manchester’s, Liverpool, Chelsea and North London.

Reckon we go back to the same 6 as recent seasons.

Liverpool and City were a cut above.
Chelsea have bought a lot.
United were transformed with Bruno (and now VDB).
We did better than all but 2 since Jose came in, and the Gunners look transformed somewhat with Arteta and have turned a corner.

Is having Carlo and 3 good signings enough when those 6 + Wolves and Leicester also have good managers but also far better attacking players. Would Everton’s defence be better than any of those 8 either?

No chance he signs an extension with Bartomeu in charge imo.

Every chance he does with a new board.

No one is going to offer that for a bloke that can sign a pre-contract in four months.

His best chance now, if he wants to leave, is stick it out in January. Sign a deal elsewhere and see what Barca are willing to accept to let him go four months early.

Roman strikes me as the sort of guy who’d be pretty chill about spending hundreds of millions of pounds and then not getting what he wants.

I think you've got this confused.

Williams was a natural right back but he has broken into the first team as a left back and is very obviously only being considered as an option on that left side now.

Also, Shaw plus cash for Chilwell is an awful idea. Shaw has been one of our best on this unbeaten run and is linking superbly with Rashford. Williams has also been more than adequate as his understudy. A new left back is way, way down on the list of priorities for this team IMO, but this is a subject that should be discussed in the United thread...

Williams is a natural right back so it would seems sensible to play him on the right.

Assuming another lb comes in to compete with shaw, Williams would cover AWB.

Dalot is probably the odd man out.

Williams played on the left at youth levels, due to Ethan Laird being seen as the better prospect - I think.

Ole has already got DVDB - I don't think a left back is as far down tge list as you think. You don't have to buy them in order of priority either.

Doucoure is a quality addition too.

Zaha would be a good fit if they still spending.

ISarr too...
