Given your username it’s hard to tell you’re an Arsenal supporter I assume is what Zidane meant.

Zidane that’s another one.
Zidane thinks Cruyff is a Man City supporter because he doesn't spend every waking hour slagging us off.

Zidane may go about slagging off City in a particularly ham-fisted way, but at least he's come to the correct conclusion about the concept of football clubs being used a sports-washing laundry for petrostates.

i still dont see how the concept of sportswashing relates to fans.

Well I think it's question of values and ethics for fans. Abu Dhabi ownership doesn't erase City's history and the lived experiences of the fans pre-takeover, but post-takeover it's naive for City fans (or PSG fans, etc.) to just assume they support the same local community based club that existed prior to the presence of their new owners.

I think fans unfortunately are complicit to some extent to supporting/condoning the actions of their owners. Obviously City fans weren't really given a choice as to whether they would allow their club to be taken over by owners with incredibly poor human rights records, but I think that's the reality they have to deal with. The season tickets bought, shirts sold, memberships purchased etc. all ultimately line the pockets of people who do really really terrible things and help to legitimise them on the world stage. The fact that the first thing people think about when they think about Abu Dhabi is Man City/CFG is the materialisation of the Abu Dhabi ownership group's goal.

The fans of City, PSG and any club with nefarious owners need to reconcile with that reality instead of putting their heads in the sand as to the implications of their continuing support. If people want to make the trade off, and value continuing to support their club over whatever their contribution to their problematic owners is, that's up to them - but at least recognise that's a choice you're making as a fan. It's the same if you're choosing to shop at H&M instead of an ethical manufacturing clothing brand. Don't try and pretend what you're doing is good, just recognise it's a selfish choice you're making which to a certain extent facilitates a problematic entity. People are allowed to make selfish choices, but all this "we're just innocent fans" nonsense rings pretty hollow and/or naive to me.

Theres no techinicality about it at all. Messi said himself it expired on June 10. He could have ended the contract there and negotiated a short term extension like all the other players who had contracts expiring before the seasons end. Would have given the club time to prepare in the transfer market too.

Instead he cracked the sads because Barca got spanked 8-2 and decided that he now wanted out. For free instead of negotiating a transfer fee in tge middle of a pandemic. Piss poor. Bet you he wouldn't have tried this on if Barca won the double.
This whole thing has been a complete and utter farce and what's more, it's shown just how the cult-of-personality and fashion has deluded some people's minds.

Here's the Captain of the Bareclona Football Club not willing to take any responsibility for the hiding they copped from Bayern even though as the Captain, he did bugger all to try and inspire his team mates and play like his life depended on it but rather, just hid like a f****ng coward and then says he wants to just walk out! And there are those who jumped to his defence!

Now the disloyal drama queen says that he doesn't want to be disrespectful to Barcelana by suing them so he'll just stay. Well how much respect did he show the club when, as the Captain, he just wanted to storm out because the team suffered a humiliating defeat for which he was just as responsible as all the other players?

The way I took Zidane98 ‘s post is that you aren’t bias when it comes to Arsenal. Yes, you have Arsenal listed as the club you support but without it, we might not know who you support. Another Arsenal supporter but if he didn’t have Arsenal listed as the club he supports, I wouldn’t know who glenferry23 supports.
