I'd happily see us pay 20-25m for him as a backup. Not a bad price for Villa IMO.

You're kidding, right?

Wrightfully getting slammed for way over the odds.

In today's edition of Marca, they state Real Madrid are uncertain as to whether they should loan Reguilon out again, or to sell to help balance their books this summer. If they choose to sell, they want a buyback clause or a first refusal, which is stalling things with Manchester United (sports witness)

Doucouré, Allan & James is a pretty decent CM for Everton. Building a good squad.

Update, September 9, 11:01 BST: Contrary to previous media reports, the midfielder is joining Everton on a free transfer. According to information acquired by Transfermarkt, Real only secured themselves a sell-on clause, which would earn them a percentage of the Colombian’s next transfer fee. The percentage is understood to be in the lower and conventional range

Are you talking about the same player?

Getting slammed for the price on Rodrigo I'd understand. Roughly the same for Watkins, know which I’d take, and we tried to actually.

Bizarre for anyone to be criticising that price for a 24 year old coming off a prolific season in the Championship with 3 years left on his deal.

Key word being championship

I would have thought the key word was prolific.

We got 20m for Bowen who was neck and neck with Watkins for top scorer and Bowen had 18 months left. Watkins has 3 years and is moving in summer with a lot of competition for his signature. An extra 8m for Watkins isn't ridiculous.

I don't care if Bowen went for 20m, all that proves is that he was overvalued to the shithouse as well.

Chelsea paid 16m more for Timo Werner, one of the best forwards in the world with 3 years left on his contract at a CL semi-finalist with one of the wealthiest owners in world football.

There is absolutely no value in the best Championship players, they may be the most overvalued commodity in world football at the moment.

Milan have just signed Tonali, one of the best young midfielders in the world for about the same price as Villa has signed a forward who has never kicked a ball in a top division at any point in his career.

Chelsea are also paying a lot more in wages. Looking at transfer fees through such a simplistic lens is an incredibly naive way to approach it.

No value? Yeah ok, Bowen did absolutely nothing to help keep West Ham up last season I guess.

Sorry, is Watkins on bread crumbs? He's just been signed on what most are reporting as an £80k per week contract, which is fairly close to what Grealish is currently on.

As for Bowen, he scored one goal in the league and assisted 4 and by all statistical metrics was bang on an average rating for PL forward/winger for his 20 games in the premier league since signing.

He's pretty much mimicked the trend of the best championship players going at around 30% of their championship offensive output when stepping up to the PL.

Comparable players in the other top nations are going for about half the price.

Are you seriously suggesting Timo Werner is earning as much at Chelsea as Ollie Watkins at Villa?

This is a really strange melt. The fee was perfectly fine for a player being pursued by a number of PL clubs.

West Ham fans saw him as their one positive from the second half of the season, hard to do real well though when you are in a poor team fighting off relegation and feeding Haller.

And he's tearing it up in pre-season so I suspect will be one of their main stars this season. But is just a run of the mill Championship player I guess.

?

4th most expensive. And he was playing division 2 and division 6 a couple years back.

If Villa stay up it's a good buy

Sorry just assumed you weren't giving an exhaustive list. Fees have gone up, Villa are desperate for a striker, a lot of clubs were interested, the fee is fine. It's 33m if he hits targets which from the sounds of things you and Pykie don't think he will so he's only 28m. Have Villa spent much else this window? Cash is the only one isn't he?

No, I'm not suggesting it.

But are you seriously suggesting Villa making Ollie Watkins on par with their highest-paid player and in world football terms one of the highest-paid transfer fees this summer a good deal for a person that has never kicked a ball at the highest level, described as a 'perfectly fine deal?

You've just become accustomed to the ridiculous transfer fee's tbh.
