And he's tearing it up in pre-season so I suspect will be one of their main stars this season. But is just a run of the mill Championship player I guess.

PMSL.

No, I'm not suggesting it.

But are you seriously suggesting Villa making Ollie Watkins on par with their highest-paid player and in world football terms one of the highest-paid transfer fees this summer a good deal for a person that has never kicked a ball at the highest level, described as a 'perfectly fine deal?

You've just become accustomed to the ridiculous transfer fee's tbh.

I don't even get your argument tbh. Werner transfer fee was lower because he had less years on his deal and is being paid a higher wage at Chelsea. Watkins is a higher fee because he had three years on his deal, there was a lot of interest, and probably the inevitable English tax.

If I've become accustomed to it doesn't that suggest it's relatively normal in the PL thus making this a pretty normal fee as I'm suggesting?

4 goals and some assists in three games? Think he's been their most promising player. No need to be so precious just because you missed out on him so had to sign Alfred then Robert.

PL clubs aren't restricted from buying in England.

Werner is only one example.

How about Everton signing Rodriguez for £6- £7m less than Watkins?

How about Leverkusen signing Schick for less than Watkins?

How about Monaco signing Volland for about half the price of Watkins?

How about Bayern signing Sane for £10m more than Watkins?

It's a terrible deal with too much risk.

It may be a masterstroke, but the risk is far too high for the reward. For that price, he basically has to become one of the better forwards outside of the top 4-5 for it to be worth it.

PL clubs aren't restricted from buying in England, it's an overinflated market here.

Werner is only one example.

Rodriguez is another on a massive wage, come on man.

The rest of those clubs aren't in England so reckon I can think of a few reasons they paid lower fees.

James was free apparently... I think, transfermarkt who are reporting it. Claim to have spoken directly to the club

With the (racist?) Homegrown Rules epl clubs do have to kinda buy English. To some extent

Villa seems to have a lot of non English on the books too

Against Wymcomb, Ipswich, Brentford and Bournemouth.

He's always been good at Championship level....

Ok? Antonio didn't manage any goals so he's looked better.

Not everything has to be a pissing contest mate.

How come. It's literally discrimination based on nationality/race innit?

Bilbao cop a lot of flak for their policy
You don't have to be English to be homegrown.

It's not exclusion in any way though?
It's just a quota of HG players, who also don't have to be English.

Ake is Dutch but HG.

Yet you make it into one.....

It's funny how triggered you get with the insinuation Bowen might just have not made the step up as well as you thought.

We can revisit this at the end of the year.

Based on the last few players like him ~ Bowen, Maupay, Pukki, Gayle, McBurnie, Mitrovic etc and around a 66% drop in his output from championship to PL.

I'm predicting 6-8 goals and an assist for Watkins this year.

Probably the best two players to translate as quality championship players to quality PL players recently have been Jota and Maddison. That Wolves side was a bit of an outlier though in Jota's case.

What about Abraham?

What about Abraham?

He only dropped about 17% and that's mainly due to playing up top for a side that finished in the top 4 in the PL.

He got more volume of shots and possession than any of the others I mentioned received.

Certainly more than Watkins will get at Villa.

Alli?

League2 wasn't he

Bit of an outlier
Brooks from Sheff Utd?

I could keep going but your point that championship players are rubbish is a poor broad stroke statement.

Please quote me where I said rubbish? I said the deal was rubbish, which is separate from my opinion of him as a player.

You are the king of misquoting people.

I said he will more than likely not translate to the superstar he was in the championship, like plenty before him.

I expect him to be a run of the mill forward that in no way justifies a £30m+ price tag.

However, please continue with the complete outrage for a differing opinion.

Brooks from Sheff Utd?

What about him?

He signed for less than 1/3 of the fee and in no way was close to a superstar of the championship in 2017. He was a bench player for Sheff Utd that started 9 games for the season.

More akin to a Jack Clarke signing on potential than Watkins.

Bournemouth should take credit for the talent ID and then the development of him.
