I know I’ve often said I don’t want any part of Bale but tbf, how much worse can it be when Mata, Pereira and Lingard are still options?

I'm not against Bale, we desperately need a RW and we are linked with three as loans, Perisic, Bale and Costa. If RM are willing to pay a large chunk of Bale's wages a years loan is not a bad thing.

Absolutely but to suggest if you're not willing to meet the asking price you shouldn't bother is a little bit facetious. Did Chelsea end up meeting the asking price for Havertz? From reports they wanted 90m pounds and Chelsea got him for 72m. Quite a bit less.

Havertz was set to pocket 10m for the higher fee (80 or 90m or whatever it was), he forfeited that so Bayer could still get a transfer fee and he could still move to Chelsea.

72m + 10m is still only 82m and that's 72m with add-ons, so the point is still valid that just because Leverkusen were holding out for something in the realm of 90m the two parties were still able to meet in the middle.

In Leverkusens case they were prepared to sell though. When youre trying to buy a player that the club doesnt want to sell there generally is far less scope for negotiation if at all.

He does but he is a striker first and foremost. The quicker we get him central the better. We 100% need a top quality RW.
