There's a spending cap in La Liga that includes player acquisition costs and salary, as well as staff costs. It also applies to the whole club - so women's football, basketball and handball teams etc also fall within the cap.

Given that expected income factors into the equation, and COVID as ****ed with the income of sports all over the world, its completely unsurprising that teams in Spain are relatively hamstrung by the cap.

Atletico Madrid can apparently only spend 25% of whatever income they might make from any player sales this season because of this

Hmmm. No idea why the Gunners don't just pay the release for Partey then and take it out of Atletico's hand, given this it sounds like all offers under the release will be rejected.

Because they apparently don't have/don't want to pay the pull 50m euros upfront (which is what is required when buying a player for a release clause in Spain).

They'd rather negotiate a lower fee in instalments, and Atleti have no reason to accept that

The Morata fee would have already been accounted for, and overpaying for him is probably part of the reason why Atleti can't buy anyone without selling first
