Interesting one. Watts and Benge are saying it's progressing, Romano obviously countering.
Romano saying no to Skriniar. Gold saying we'll go in again today.
Hmmm.

The only way it'd be "progressing" is if Arsenal's representatives showed up at the RFEF headquarters with a way to immediately transfer for 50m euros

I'm sure we can just write a cheque and text them a photo of it.

It might have changed thanks to COVID, but previously you had to transfer the amount in full, and I believe in person, to the Spanish football federation to activate a release clause

That's interesting, never knew that.

I wonder what changed for them to be willing to stump up the cash now.

Is it just that they've run out of time to get one of their other targets and this is the only guaranteed way for them to get someone in? Or is it that they just wanted to be difficult because Atleti wouldn't negotiate (as some Arsenal fans were hoping)? Or something else?

Either way, it sucks to lose Thomas as his directness on the pitch is sometimes sorely needed by Atleti. Plus we'll be losing yet another home grown midfielder (after losing Rodri last year) which is never great in terms of squad requirements for the UCL

Does partey put gunners in the top 4 hunt this year ? Obviously results so far would suggest so but who knows. I would've thought Aouar was more of a necessity myself but partey is a no nonsense footballer that will give great structure through the middle which at times we do lack.

They're signing an 18yo winger by the name of Jeremy Doku from Anderlecht for almost 30 million Euros who plays in the exact same position as Raphinha and is seen as one of the biggest young prospects in Europe (supposedly Liverpool were going to make a huge bid) so I think it's more to do with that.

Turns out he's instigated it, not Rennes.

The fee is also reportedly the way it is to screw Sporting. Sporting have a decent % of the full fee as long as it's a profit. Rennes making a lot more by selling him for slightly less than they bought him for and not triggering the sell on %.

One way to ruin future relations. lol.

It's not impossible Arsenal weren't happy with Atletico turning Torreira's head for a loan when sales were mooted in Italy, timing wise that may have damaged the Aouar move.
