It makes no sense if you end up just paying the clause. Could have had him for pre season etc etc.

Apparently he's agreed to join then.
I thought he wasn't allowed to until six months left
He isn't allowed to agree anything with them yet, sounds like bs to me.
He's had a contract offer in front of him for most of 2020Strange for Atletico to be furious, they know the La Liga buyout clause rules. If they dont want to lose players in this manner maybe negotiate bigger clauses / higher wages.
OTOH, Arsenal's repeated attempts (and failures) at negotiating for Partey and Aouar, plus all their staff cuts/player wage reductions might have given Atleti the impression they couldn't or wouldn't come up with the 50m up-frontThey must have known there was a good chance of him leaving with all the negotiating going on. Would have been much easier if the buyout was shelled out up front at the start of the window instead of going back and forth until finally caving right before the deadline!!

Dortmund demand 150m on January 1, United spend all of January offering 120-130m. Still at Dortmund when the deadline passesI’m hearing Sancho to Man Utd
Why are your buyout clauses so low? They really need to be a figure so high nobody will bother trying to activate them.
Because you'd need to pay the player more to compensate for the higher release clause. And despite Atleti's relative success (making UCL every year, making the final twice in the last 10 years etc), we don't even have the same income as a low level EPL team so paying higher wages is harder to justifyWhy are your buyout clauses so low? Its really only Barca and Real Madrid that seem to be able to insert ridiculously high clauses into contracts for their players
Yes but now they have 50m and nothing to spend it on.It makes no sense if you end up just paying the clause. Could have had him for pre season etc etc.

2 mil for a guy who was apparently really good last season. we are terrible at selling players
I kinda feel like Arsenal did it on purpose. Tried to do a deal and AM were just like nah bro, release clause bitch. So Arsenal went away and were like, ok let's wait until the last hour and just activate the release clause and **** AM in the arse. HahaArsenal came to AM to try and bargain and sort something out with money and a player or money over time. AM just kept pointing at the release clause, and I suppose this is how just relying on a release clause and not coming to the table can backfire.
Yeah I read they have 30 days to find a replacement within La Liga.I think the are allowed to buy a la Liga player?
The rule which allowed Barca to get brathwatie is a strange one
