I reckon Villa would be paying similar wages to Arsenal these days.

They finished 6 points apart, he might view Villa on the way up and Arsenal on the way down.

He might be using Villa as another stepping stone for his biggest move... easier to leave Villa in that scenario than Arsenal.

I edited my post above, but I agree.

Villa seem to be building towards a European tilt in the next few years and their owners are ambitious, they aren’t shy of spending.

Villa’s supporter base is comparable to Arsenals. Arsenal is a bigger PL era club, I wouldn’t necessarily call them a bigger club though, Villa have been dormant for decades.
