Could you see Liverpool or Man U ever dealing with Man City, especially for Raheem Sterling? And neither of those two (or Chelsea) need him. Arsenal could get him but right now Barca's in the Champions League and Arsenal aren't. Newcastle are closer to the Championship right now then any spot in Europe so I doubt he goes there either.

With how long left is on his contract, I don't see Sterling going for more than 50-60 and honestly the only club who'd tick all the boxes for him would be Barcelona.

You are correct in saying Barca's the best fit for him but I just don't see how it happens economically. They've just had to refinance 525m of debt with Goldman Sachs and they are watching every penny. City aren't going to help out Barca by offering a loan, they'll have to somehow come up with the funds now, probably around 40m should get it done. A possibility is Coutinho is flogged to Newcastle for 30m or so to help fund it. Barca are definitely not in a position to buy a player without incoming transfer funds in January for sure though.

They are also apparently about to take out another 1b+ euros in debt to finance renovations of Camp Nou

That would be long term debt so shouldn't affect them too much right now. That will probably pay for itself long term anyway.

Interesting he specifically said abroad. Not many English players like to go abroad, not to mention, the PL is the best league in the world right now by some distance so it's strange he wants to leave it. But having said that, you cant blame him, every player just wants to play and he just isnt really getting the game time he wants at City.

I don’t think the premier league being the best league in the world is the draw card people think it is.

Then why does Sterling want to move abroad?

And Abraham moved abroad, Bellingham at Dortmund, Sancho previously at Dortmund, Ramsey (not English) moved to Juve, etc. etc.

Then why does Sterling want to move abroad?
He could also want to escape the hounding he's gotten from the England press for years. Joining another EPL team will bring out some nasty media and comments.

Then why does Sterling want to move abroad?

Wants to become a starting XI player again likely. Not that at City currently and no real interest from Liverpool / Utd / Chelsea so best bet for a big club is overseas.

The reason why he wants to move abroad is probably because all the best players in the world play in the Premier League, hence him losing game time to international players like Jesus, Mahrez, Silva etc... then falling down the pecking order of even local talent behind Foden and Grealish.

Of course Sterling would prefer to stay in the PL but he wants to go somewhere where he will play.

Barca chasing Lingard on a freebie.

It would be just like United to not sell Lingard for £20M, pay him millions of dollars in wages this season, have him for about 20-25 appearances and see him leave on a free.

It’s almost as if the Premier League being the best league in the world is and arbitrary consideration for players and that they care more about substantial reason like playing time.

Doesnt matter what consideration it is to players. It's just basically fact that right now the PL is the best league in the world.

This literally what we were arguing about.

I never disagreed with this.

OK so we're not even arguing. :)

Well you are, because you're saying he should want to stay in England because it's the best league.

would be very disappointing to lose sterling as when he's on form he's a fantastic footballer. just going through a rough spot of form currently. but rotating players happens at all clubs, and over the last couple of seasons he has played a lot of games. does he think that doesn't happen at other top clubs?

if he wants to play in spain because he wants to that's fair enough but surely he doesnt think he'd start every single game at madrid or barca. it just doesnt work that way with 60+ games these days
