That purchase definitely looks to be the ultimate white elephant.

Brighton played that one superbly. All the cards were in their favour. Homegrown, premier league experience, no need to sell, young, English international etc etc.

Arsenal obviously had a very strong desire for White and went made 5 bids in total to finalise the transaction.

It’s sometimes not as simplistic as “if White is worth £50m, then player X is worth....”. Well played to Brighton, Arsenal should be taking notes on how to sell a player correctly.

Someone told me a desperate man will pay well above what something is actually worth or what just about everyone else values that item at.

Old story I’m sure everyone’s heard. Seth Johnson was negotiating with Ridsdale on his move from Derby to Leeds. Johnson was on £5k a week at Derby and was hoping to get £13k a week from Leeds. Ridsdale opens with £30k. When he’s met with stunned silence he ups the offer to £37k a week. Johnson accepted.

Greatest sports story is Bobby Bonilla. New York Mets cut him in 1999 but they still owed him $5.9M. Bobby and his agent offered the Mets a deal to defer payments until 2011 and in exchange the Mets would pay Bobby $1.19M a year until 2035.

Youll be surprised at how many contracts like that are still running long after a player has retired. Boston Celtics are paying Kevin Garnett $5M a year until 2024, he retired in 2016 lol.

Also the theory that well with that 50m could have spent less on Varane is pointless too. Arsenal don't have CL football to offer so have a different pool of player to target but the same amount of money to spend, clubs selling to them know this and extract the fee they are willing to sell for.

That fee then needs to be well spent by Brighton in a completely different pool again to maintain their top flight status.

We won it when we got him to sign a long term contract last offseason.

We're pretty proactive in getting young players to sign long deals once they show their promise.

No doubt BW was told that sign a long term contract, play a season and we won't stand in your way of a big money move.

Tony Bloom is a shrewd operator.

Someone told me a player is worth what someone is willing to pay for them, so White is worth $50m.

What are White's pros/cons? Do you think he will do well for us?

Someone once told me that a transfer doesn’t remove £50M out of a £150M budget, it only removes £10M out of the budget if the player is on a 5 year contract.

So if a club says they have a £150M transfer budget, they can buy 5 players at £750M, all on 5 year contracts. True story.
Strange.

Oh, they still have that to, see Tomori.
You mean Tomori who left the academy 5 years ago?
Whereas Livramento literally just left the academy?

Amazingly, you just get your back up over something that might not be directed at you. [emoji23]
Just said that your post was strange. Chill.

Ah yes Bobby Bonilla …think the Mets are paying another guy as well not as long as Bobby

Ha ha. Reminds me of the Fowler deal which he kept increasing unnecessarily. Fowler discusses it in his book. No wonder he sent the club bankrupt.

So Harry Kane, a 28 year old who has never won a single trophy because he hasn’t had the balls to put in a transfer request has realized this summer that he likes the idea of going far in a major tournament, so he is happy to skip training rather than have the balls to put in a transfer request. Haha, what an absolute knob.
You don’t think he has put in a transfer request?

We established a few hours ago that yes, he probably has.
Sorry I missed that but I’m still amazed on how that was your original conclusion of events.

The drilling oil/selling carpets reference last night was distasteful, can see that’s been deleted now.

Very interesting what happens next. Didn’t think he would so actively push for a move (if it’s true that he’s not presenting for training). Hard to see Levy cracking though, everyone has their price however.

I hope no one makes any jokes about Romans money any more if these are the new rules. Wouldn't wanna be distasteful

Precious middle eastern owners

All good mate. Yeah I see what you mean, I think Kane will eventually be sold in the next month. The end fee will, probably shatter the PL record.
