He'd still need to be registered as a Barcelona player with La Liga to play in their matches, and even if he played for free, Barca would still be well over their allowed salary limit - hence he wouldn't be registered. He'd basically only be able to play Champions League and Copa del Rey (Spanish equivalent of the FA Cup)
