This will be a touch unpopular but I'm genuinely surprised at some of the ex Liverpool employees (Gerrard/Firmino) moving to the Saudi league.

For everything Liverpool stands for as a club, the Saudi's are polar opposite.

The club stands for that. Gerrard kicked the s**t out of some guy in a pub. He doesn’t exactly have high morals.

Probably valid.

I don't know, it always feels like they buy into the socialist kool aid over there but clearly that's just a ruse to have the supporters on side while they're playing there.

Does someone like Firmino 'buy into' that just because he signed for Liverpool?

As Firmino is still playing, you can see him taking the big money over in Saudi Arabia over say going back to Brazil. Gerrard is a different case though, so I can agree with that. He wants to be a manager and has already taking the money route after only 5 years at it? Either he doesn’t believe in his own ability as a manager or he isn’t serious about managing at any sort of semi-professional level.

Firmino supported Bolsonaro and Gerrard managed Rangers. Just because you lived in a left-wing city doesn’t mean you have to be that way (I have no idea what Gerrard’s politics are and don’t care).
Wasn't suggesting they have to be that way at all.

Liverpool is one of the handful of clubs that are more than a football club, I just incorrectly believed they'd be more aligned with their supporter base, having played there for big parts of their life.

It's not wrong that they're not aligned with the clubs ethos/values, I just thought they were.

Sure you're not a Liverpool fan mate? What a bunch of wank.

I really don't see how it's wank, Liverpool and socialism go hand in hand. That's just facts.

There are very few clubs in the world where that is the case. They're not completely unique but it's rare.
The same Liverpool who tried to join the Super League?

PR.

The current owners certainly don't scream socialist to me.

Owners don't always represent the values of the clubs though. Ask any of the Saudi owned clubs now.

If the owners don't why is there surprise if the players don't? What is 'the club'?

Gerrard going through the club through his career is very different to the Yank owners, owning it. He lived in Liverpool I'm sure through his career I'm sure, he would understand the place better than most.

I'm happy to be proven wrong but how often is John Henry actually at the games etc? I don't think they've ever seen it as much more than a cash cow, no matter what they try and say to the contrary. The owners can run the business without needing to feel close to the club.

Once they leave the club they are free to do as they please.

I'm more talking about Firmino than Gerrard though.

Yeah I admitted before it'd probably have been a bit different for Bobby.

Even still though, I think he'd buy in to the culture of the club far more than the owners.

Anyway, was only an observation on my part, probably clogged up the thread enough with it.
