Most expensive CB, GK and 4th most expensive PL signing. Yet the woe is me line vs city is rolled out

Not quite, Harry Maguire and Kepa hold the record for most expensive CB and GK.

Fee for Nunez have him as the 13th most expensive signing in PL history (£64M / €80M)

So we're being linked with Ismaila Sarr today for 25M quid and Benrahma is being linked with a move to Fulham for 15M.

I would consider that an upgrade in all honesty for the simple fact that Sarr has more pace and would be a better fit in Moyes' system.

Sarr usually plays on the right doesn't he? You wouldn't move Bowen.

If he switched to the left that would be an upgrade on Benrahma or Vlašić.

Despite the obvious trust in the scouting team and decision-makers when it comes to transfers, I can't shake the feeling that Nunez is the riskiest purchase of the Klopp era. I'm not convinced he's going to be the 20+ goals in the league striker that we need him to be. That twitter thread posted by chef has me spooked.

To me it could be argued there is a bit of desperation about the move. Missing out on the big two trophies, Mane leaving and City signing Haaland... I'd be surprised if we have had this transfer in the works for 12/18 months like most of our business.

Yeah RW is usually his spot, but I think he can easily play LW or as a striker also.

I'm all about adding more pace to our team and also at left back.

Wijndal from AZ has a 8.6m release clause apparently we should be all over that IMO.

I reckon Liverpool have got this spot on as usual. With TAA and Robertson firing in from wide they don't have to change their tactics to accommodate Nunez. Whereas City will either have to change for Haaland or he will have to adapt. We've already seen Grealish struggle to fit into Pep's system.

Liverpool will be getting good dollars for Mane while he's still in good form and not too old.

He will only help us if disaster strikes and one of our stars goes down. And even then we drop in quality.

Really surprised the concept of spending close to half a transfer budget and not improving the quality of the starting XI is seen as great business. Sure if you're Liverpool or city and the starting xi is stacked. But we have Dier, Davies, Hojberg, Djed Spence / Doherty and Bentacur in ours.

If we end up breaking the transfer record on him he's really stuffed. Rebrov, Soldado, Lamela, Sanchez and then Ndombele before him. None lived up to the price tag or hype

Don't you concede barely any goals on average when Dier plays?

I guess Nunez could rise to €100m though.

It is kinda funny that we just waltzed in and stole him from you guys. Weird role reversal from times gone by huh.

United never even got to making an offer once FDJ became the priority signing. Let's not pretend Liverpool haven't been working on this deal for longer than one week some supporters think it was.

I don’t think Klopp can cry poor (though not the most well resourced coach on the planet, he’s been pretty well looked after), but you can’t ignore that this quote is from 6 years ago. I don’t know what football inflation has been over that period, maybe if we were spending £150m on Nunez?

I think this is also a factor in Liverpool fans not being too down about him leaving.

Not expecting him to fall off a cliff but he is 30 years old, realistically we’re going to see more injuries and declining performance levels over the duration of his next contract.

We were fortunate to have the best years of Mane’s career, but it won’t last forever, and at some point it’s just sensible business to let him (and others) go in order to reinvest our finite wage bill in the next generation of players who are about to enter their best years.

Salah should go too by the same logic no?

Eventually, yes. You can (and probably should) carry a couple but there’s risk in investing too much of your wage bill into older players. Not ideal to end up stuck with a crocked 34 year old on £300k/week with 2 years on his contract.
