One of those, “Oops, we got rid of too many players” type situations.
Would prefer some of our Youth team players to play than some of the deadwood who have gone out the door. A few more need to be turfed as well though.

I suspect we have a few targets in mind but are waiting on the de Jong deal as it will be the biggest move we make by far.

Unfortunately I don't see that being wrapped up quickly either. Barca are obviously trying to get maximum value but the whole world knows how desperate they are to sell so I expect there will be a lot of haggling here. Frustrating but its the smart move to be patient.

A lot has been made about de Jong's reluctance to leave Barca but I don't blame him at all. Feels very similar to the situation Collingwood put Treloar through.
My concern is city could come in and snatch him up because they're willing to pay an extra 10 mil than what we are.

For a player of his quality as well why are we stalling this deal?

will be fun when United sign none of them and bring in jonjo shelvey on deadline day

Will at least stop him scoring from 30 yards out against us.

probably wouldn't even need to pay extra, just clear whatever left they owe on torres

Because the longer this drags out the lower the fee is likely to be. I get the frustration but even though he is a quality player we shouldn't be paying top price when they're selling from a position of such desperation.

I'm sure as this drags out there will be stories about other teams coming in to swoop but I'd take them with a grain of salt. The press will get sick of the lack of updates, so to generate a a few hits I'm sure we'll see a few stories about rivals being ready to swoop. We saw the same thing happen as recently as last year when the media got bored with the Sancho deal.

And look it could happen that another team swoops in a pays full price. That'll suck but end of the day we moan about United overpaying for years because we could whilst other top clubs don't fold and have a price point they are content with. Buy smarter.

It ultimately doesn't matter if utd buy him now or in a month.

Some reports saying Barca are ****ed too if they don't sell.

Might as well save 10m if you can. But yeah, looks pretty bad if they dont end up with him

Not many teams can afford his wages. Most big teams have the middle spots sorted too.

Can city squeeze him in after Phillips? Personally I reckon haaland and fdj would be perfect.

Cucurella looks a good fit too

I doubt they would sign both, and Phillips is a long way behind behind FDJ. The rumours say that there's only £10 million difference in their transfer valuations. I doubt his wages would be an issue for City.

Signing Cucurella could mean Zinchenko moving into the midfield role that he plays so well for Ukraine.

Another option would be Kante. It's not really City's style to buy older players but if Chelsea were to let him go he would be perfect in that backup to Rodri role that Fernandinho had in his last couple of seasons.

City can afford anyone's wages. (wAGe StRUctURe)

I mean do they have enough spots left in the squad - Phillips. Foden. Kdb. Rodri etc.

Gundogan is contracted next season too. Maybe he goes early to fit in fdj
