If you were a player looking at Barca refusing to pay a player what he is owed, would you really trust them and want to go there?
It baffles me why anyone still does.

I'm constantly baffled at players who go to clubs that are in dire straits who then seem to be shocked when they don't get paid on time/at all. Do they not do any research on what they're joining, or do they think it's over-exaggerated or what? I'm thinking like lower league clubs etc.

Normally its desperation if you're referring to lower league clubs but if it's Barca, there'll be plenty of other top clubs that'd be interested.

I suppose so, but yeah certainly with Barca it's surprising how long clubs can trade on a historic name above wages and other things.

Here's a swiss ramble report on matchday revenue back in 2018:

No club is affected more by covid matchday revenue losses than Barca.

Next season will be the first uninterrupted matchday revenue season for them since 2018/19. They'll be back to normal with a year or two, that's the prevailing view in the game it seems.

They were just given a third of a billion no? Don't think they'll be folding any time soon

I'm not buying FDJ settling his wages with Barca as a reason to delay a transfer.

Why not. His deferred wages is significant amount

hat can still be done whether he is a Barcelona player or not.

Less messy to do it now. They may have to legally pay him pre transfer too?

Barca won the court battle against Neymar for the owed loyalty bonuses because Neymar announced he was leaving just after they came into effect. Maybe Barca think they can get away with no paying FDJ if he isn't a Barca player any longer and FDJ wants it sorted before leaving.

United delegates are in Barcelona finalising the payment structure.

Why would it make a difference to whether he is a player any longer if Barca pay him? Players are pretty well protected against this sort of stuff. Generally they are only not getting paid what is contractually obliged to them if either their club folds / is liquidated or they agree to forgo a contractual payment.

If United really want him just give him a 10m signing on bonus and get it over and done with.

The biggest reason Neymar didn't win was because he left the club unilaterally by paying out his buyout clause in full. Pretty hard to argue for a "loyalty" bonus in that instance to be paid especially when he signed a contract at PSG doubling his wages.

United have an agreed fee with Barca, not up to them to sort out the contract mess.

Why should they pay for Barcelona's inability to fulfil their contractual obligations? That's an awful idea lol.

Why would a bonus paid by United be seen as that? If you want the player badly enough give him a juicy signing on fee. Player would still be free to pursue Barca down the track for contractually owed wages.

Because as soon as he leaves Barca his contract no longer applies. He isn't protected at all.

We are already paying 70m, that is our commitment to the player plus we can also pay him his wages in full. The player would not be free to pursue Barca down the track either as his contract with Barca ends the moment he is transferred to another club.

Yet they can afford kessie Christensen lwski raphina etc.

They can afford it, they don't want to pay it
Only confirmed ins so far are the first two you’ve listed and they were both free transfers
