I have to call bs on this claim. Clearly Barca are paying him his contracted wage right now otherwise he would terminate his contract once they got 60 days behind in payments as is his right The signing on bonuses as a freebie would then be huge and see him better off financially than if he seen out his contract.

Why would he terminate his contract. When he's owed like 100million euro over 4 years?

Haven't been following closely but how can Barcelona simply not pay their players? Surely FIFA/Spanish FA are de-registering them? Players getting lawyers to make Barca pay them? Furthermore why do new players want to go there knowing this???

They probs do pay the players.

Fdj choose to defer his payments

The fdj deferred wages may be a unique situation due to pandemic / big money ? / Likely getting sold.

I assume he was supposed to get the owed wages over the next four season on top of his (regular) wage(?)

Selling him now , puts a spanner in the works. Someone call slater and gordon.

Players want to go to Barca cause its the biggest club in the world or there abouts.

It's unclear if they can register players but we will find out soon enough. They are selling future assets atm (levers) to offset the salary cap la Liga has / FFP. Or so is my understanding

According to journalist, Gerard Romero, they owe defender Pique a massive £42.5 million after failing to pay his salary year after year. Having joined the club in 2008, the Spaniard is the highest earner at the club.

So De Jong is not the only one???

They deferred payments during covid and banked on the super league, those wages were being spread out in future years and a few bonuses.

Super league hasn't happened and now they paying those players more over the next few seasons. They want to shift those players so they don't have to pay the higher wages.

Barca can afford to pay his wages and will continue to pay his contract if he stays. However, they will not be able to register several players if he stays due to the La Liga salary cap.

People are confusing their solvency with the salary cap. As well as the deferred wages issue, I saw somewhere this morning that De Jong agents negotiated a 20m euro loyalty bonus when they restructured his contract.

How can they transfer the players and still not pay them what they are owed? Surely they have legal contracts to pay the players what they owe them?
they are paying them but they can't register them as La Liga has a salary cap.

The cherry on top of a disaster of a window.

So what's the stories about them owing money to players then?
They struggled during Covid so asked players to defer their wages. They are now trying to move them on because their contract is void when their registration is transferred to another club. Frenkie De Jong will earn 550,000 euros a week next season (after earning 60k per week last season) and is due a 20m euro loyalty bonus at the end of his contract. No club wants to pay that for a player that may not be a starting XI player. So they are asking their players who deferred wages to leave or take 40-50% pay cuts to stay.

They have raised around 600m euros but don't want to honour their commitments to their current players, they'd rather buy your teams centre forward instead. They owe De Jong 19m euros plus the loyalty bonus but he might waive that. They offered 3m euros which was rejected and they followed that up with 5m euros over 5 years which de Jong also rejected.

So if they leave they don't get the money they are owed? Surely FIFA and Spanish FA should be deregistering Barcelona for this

Correct. Same with every player when they leave a club. Their contract with their previous club is void. Frenkie is happy to go to United (you can imagine how happy he is with the way he is being treated) but he's not just going to let Barca keep the 19m euros in deferred wages they owe him from previous seasons. Once Barca provide an acceptable offer to Frenkie he'll be out of there. If they don't then he'll pick up his 550k per week cheque and probably won't be registered. Frenkie has plenty of leverage on Barca so something should happen soon. I think Barca start registering players for the new season from 30 July.

It's also strange that players would want to go there knowing that this is happening to current players. Why would it also not happen to the new players?
This is the bit I don't understand. Barca still haven't paid De Jong's agent his commission for his transfer to Barca from Ajax. Why would agents advise their clients to go there?

Well it would seem a pointless thing without including them as they are part of the player spend.
No, I've been saying that for years but apparently net spend is the thing that matters.

At a guess our amortisation plus wages is looking pretty healthy this year.

City's oil money is unique so good idea to include wages agent fees etc.
Or we could Barca and force players to take payouts and wage deferrals while we chase expensive signings.

It seems more in UEFA's domain. It's strange that they are silent on this. What Barca are doing undermines the whole transfer system.
uefa are also considering the legacy qualification nonsense for the champions league. they dont care what old money teams do.
