I dont think Chelsea do anywhere near as well. They have taken masses L's on the likes of Morata, Lukaku, Bakayoko, Batshuayi, Kepa, Werner, not to mention selling Mo Salah for 12 million and De Bruyne for around 17 million. They did however fleece Real Madrid for Hazard so they havent been all losses.

City havent faired much better either.
Our strike rate with signings is pretty good.

Reckon every one of our squad was written off as a poor signing when they joined. But I reckon you could say Mendy, jury out on Grealish and then you're going back years to find another dud.

So you guys spend the best part of a decade spunking billions to the point where you can now comfortably buy and sell.

But yeah sure, you're the net spend champions :D
I don't make the rules, I just celebrate our victories. A bit more respect needed for your net spend champions next time thanks.

Besides, you could use the same argument to say that when the takeover happened we had **** all saleable assets, and very few players capable of taking a step up. So our spending in the first years partially reflected that.

You could make that argument, surprisingly no-one did.

Nolito is the last dud I can remember aside from the two aforementioned.

Poor from Chelsea, Salah and KDB are the best two players in the league and you had both. ;)
Salah was garbo for us.

KDB was a victim of Mou's obsession with Oscar.

Yeah the type to do a job at the level Hull were at when he signed but never a player to push you on. Thanks again for Robbo though. 😍

Nah he was terrible the first season when we actually had a decent side.

Gotten much better now. It's easier now though than when you first got taken over. In the early days nobody wanted to join you cos well to be fair, you were Man City, not Man United. So you had to overpay on a lot of risky players and a lot of them didnt turn out.

Now with City being well established at the top of football, combined with $$$$ you only shop from the very top shelf, so it's pretty hard to miss.

City dont operate like the rest of us.

To be fair you never gave him a chance.

He was with you for two years, you loaned him out twice and when he wasnt on loan he started just 7 games and came off the bench 10 times.

It's hard to give 22 year olds much game time if they aren't doing much and you are trying to win the league.

Also a function of Chelsea having a DOF buying exciting youngsters and a manager who wants experienced pro's.

True in part. We also had to attract champions league calibre players without champions league.

But we operate the same way as everyone else. We have advantages as do other clubs including Liverpool.

What's your point? Salah did do nothing, but he was given very little opportunity to do so. So you're just backing up my point. Also this was annoying back then as we were poorly run and hadnt yet started the revolution with Edwards.

You also sold Salah at a loss and as I said you never gave him a chance. A total of 17 games he played, 7 starts and 10 off the bench for a total of 608 minutes of football or around 30 minutes per game played.

We have advantages over poorer clubs than us, you have advantages over us cos you're richer. Football is about money, if you have it, you can win. If you dont, it's almost impossible. Outside of that wonderful Leicester miracle.

Good for you guys that you're the richest, well you were the richest until Newcastle came along.

we sold players and we still cant afford cucurella from brighton. we're battlers

Wow, did you try and search for something or do you have the memory of an elephant?
I had a hunch there might be some hindsight hero happening.

Why would he play if he showed nothing?

They didn't sell at a loss when you consider the loan fees they received.

As I said you werent playing him. So not sure how he can show what he is capable of if you didnt play him. Not sure what you want him to do.

It's more what Bojan said, a young player not being given a chance with a veteran team trying to win silverware. So you ended up losing him. I was wrong in that post from 7 years ago regarding selling for a profit. (wtf).

He was bought for 16.5 million euros and sold for 15 million euros. You may have broken even or made a tiny profit with loan fees.
