Where is net spend Moh when you need him.

We spent * all money. It's annoying.
He's trying to work out how Liverpool have outspent Man City over the last five seasons and still moan about how unfair it all is.

Odd take by Howe when you consider what Chelsea and Utd were willing to pay for some players, yet they seem to undervalue Harrison at least. He just expects clubs to rollover?
To be fair to him the article reads quite different to.how it's being portrayed.

Are you ever just gonna embrace that you have more money than everyone in world football outside of now Newcastle? And that because of this fact you win heaps or??

I'd embrace it more if we could spend the sort of money Liverpool have over the past five years. I don't know how we stay close to you.

PS, I'll let you in on a secret. I still don't give a toss about net spend.

Weve made a £70m profit this window and I'm about as excited about our squad as I've ever been.

Just find it amusing that it doesnt seem as important to some as it has been for the past decade.

Net spend is important IMO.

I dont understand your first sentance though, do you wish you would spend less money like Liverpool or do you think we've somehow outspent you in the past five years? According to transfermarkt.com City have spent 684 million over the past 5 years compared to Liverpool's 453.

Of course you're excited as ever, you brought in Haaland on the cheap. And according to transfermarkt.com you only made a 20 million profit not 70 million. 139 million spent, 159 million brought in.

It's not a matter of me thinking you've outspent us in the transfer market over the past five years. You have outspent us over the past five years (if net spend is the metric you're using).

Liverpool -£216.61m
Man City -£203.90m * number of sales not included.

Now I think net spend is a stupid metric to use, and have been saying so for a decade. I'd much prefer amortisation plus wages, but mentioning that makes Zidane98 go a bit weird. However, on that front we have certainly spent more than you but not the extent that folk such as your good self like to make out.

So I can't really lose here, either net spend is stupid or Man City are the kings of frugality against the reckless spending of the likes of Liverpool.

Very excited by Haaland, we've had some great players but none of them have generated the interest I've seen in Haaland over the past few months. Got a standing ovation against Barca the other week warming up which I just found totally bizarre.

But I'm more enjoying a newish style of play and some new younger players trying to break into the team. We've lost some great players this summer but there is a good regeneration vibe about the place.

As for transfermrkt we've sold 4 players to Southampton this window, none of which are included in their figures yet.

Saw an argument for the Euro Super League again because Premier League teams are spending so much more money than others, but that's because of the new TV Rights package really.

Can't help but think that at his stage of his career, Broja would be better off making 30-40 starts and continuing what he did last season.

Probably Gallagher too.

City have probably had the best transfer window of all the Premier League clubs. They have made a profit, and not just improved their squad like United and Spurs. With Haaland they have improved their first 11. I believe they have sell-on and buy back clauses on the academy players they have let go.

I guess we have to either use them or lose them as they aren't doing anymore loans.

Should still get plenty of game time.

The five years thing though also just suits your argument. You spent billions before the 5 year cut off getting your squad up to that world class level where by over the past 5 years it's just needed top up's here and there rather than major surgery. Not all teams have that luxury unfortunately.

I agree, we didn't have that luxury either 10 years ago when net spend charts became a thing.

Good to see that you seem to be agreeing now that net spend charts are all a bit of fun, but utterly pointless.

If you spend many years spending many billions on the team eventually making a 'profit' isn't that impressive
