Mount for 40 mill, okay, I guess. Mount for 50 mill, well, that's an overpay, United tax I guess. Mount for more than that, absolute piss take, walk away and get him for free if you still want him next year.

i know saudi is minted, but i wouldnt think they can hand out 86 million pound a year contracts to defensive midfielders for too long

Considering they put a billion on the table for Messi over 3 years that's chump change.

I think this Saudi investment is very different to USA and China, I think we’re watching football change forever in real time.

There’s also the sinister elements such as Saudi clubs buying Chelsea players to help them with FFP because they also have a stake in Chelsea.

The whole thing is ugly.

Not disagreeing with you and I'm here to be educated but what stake do they have?

The USA (MLS) setup was always different to both. Privately owned and run clubs not beholden to government investment.

Chinese & Saudi leagues driven by their governments. China had covid & Xi became bored with football so that's why that league turned to shit.

Considering the wealth of the PIF and the house of Saud they can afford to waste money on football for a very long time (dependent on oil money income of course). It'll be here until someone in the royal family gets bored of it.
