Opposition clubs should never be the arbiters of who gets investigated or not. Nor should commentators like Gary Neville.

First thing to look at, is anything happening that is wrong? For me, if Chelsea are selling players for fair market value then there's not a lot wrong. People adding 2 and 2 together and thinking there is something dodgy going on, I'm not sure that's the case.

Second, let's presume the Saudis are paying above market value, is that against any rules? Chances are that while rules may need to be changed, Chelsea are taking advantage of a loophole. That to me doesn't warrant an investigation.

As for the relationship between Clearlake and the Saudis, it may well be worth the league establishing exactly what it is. But AFAIK, Clearlake is one of the biggest investment companies in the world, and will have any number of investors from all walks of life investing in their funds. PIF investing in Clearlake doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with football, and it shouldn't be presumed that it does.

The Saudi's are paying below market value imo. They are helping take huge wages off the books and issues with FFP as well.

If they're paying fair market value or below, how does that help with FFP?

They're buying players that could be sold for the same price to a non Saudi club.

If they're playing above fair market value then that could help with FFP. But I'm not sure if there's any rules at the moment about clubs buying players for above market value. There'd be a few clubs in trouble if that was the case.

Taking huge wages off the books? How many clubs do you think would take Ziyech and be able to afford his wage? Same with Koulibaly etc.

Is it to do with the Saudis?
So its not odd to you that there's a conflict of interest between PIF and Clearlake Capital, and that all of a sudden flops can easily be taken off the books to this conflict given the wheels come pre-greased.

If they're being sold for market value that would indicate that it's the price that other clubs would pay. And wages are a factor in market value price.

Nothing at all dodgy looking about them all being sold to the same league.

I mean if they all went to different leagues then that would look like a regular transfer window...
