I feel like 40mil for Gallagher is a bit steep of a price, yes I understand some of that is English tax put on top, but if Spurs can haggle their way to 30mil, I think it would be a reasonable deal.

His interceptions skills are excellent and the rest of his game is pretty good. He's continued to improve whereas Tom Davies looked good as a youngster but his form dropped off.

I was surprised Poch didn't give the armband to Thiago after James and Chilwell both got injured. Colwill was captain when Gallagher was out against United.
Thiago cant speak English very well, thats why.

Does the final price end up mattering? Surely VVD and Allison deals have shifted the narrative on this.

If it has to be 40m to get Gallagher and the alternative is keeping Hojberg and Skipp in major roles because there isn't a 30m option, then just spend the extra 10m

What other English CMs are there around the 30-40m mark whose clubs have to sell?

Do you specifically need an English player? Dewsbury-Hall is another but not sure what he's valued at.

For what it's worth, I think the gap between Hojberg/Skipp to Gallagher is nowhere near as big as Karius/Lovren to Alisson/VVD, the latter 2 being pivotal pieces in transforming a defence.

The weird thing for me is why would Gallagher want to come to Tottenham (apart from escaping the cesspool of a club he is at). He is probably going to be at best the 4th choice mid and probably 5th. For his career his best option to play most weeks would be a lower to mid table club like Palace, Brentford or United

100% agree. 40m for a guy who in 6 weeks time is a bit part role.

Don't get it. Go from being stand in captain to struggling to make matchday squads.

All fit Biss, Sarr and Bentancur are all ahead in the 8/6. Maddison, GLC and Kulu ahead in the 10 role.

Biss and Sarr are injured and even if fit would be going to AFCON. Maddison is long term injured. Bentancur and Lo Celso have hardly played.

Gallagher would be have been getting games ahead of Hojbjerg.

Like Ange said your transfers reflect long term goals not covering injuries/absences over next 6 weeks. Does Gallagher keep his spot once Chelsea get more players back? They’ll probably keep buying so maybe Gallagher better off at Spurs although agree with others ..he may be better off at one of the middle/lower clubs

Skipp and Hojberg struggle in a possession based style. They can't handle the press. And often don't show for the ball because they know they can't turn on it.

Gallagher is far better at it than they are. But not as good as our first choice.

I like the KDH option but got a feeling Leicester going for promotion would ask for more than the FFP breachers

I doubt Spurs would bring Gallagher in without the intention of him being a regular in the starting lineup.
Can't see how he can. He isn't ahead of Bissouma, Bentancur in the 6 role. Lo Celso, Sarr, Bentancur ahead of him in the 8 role

plus there's the possibility he's replacing someone leaving spurs this month
Would be Hojbjerg if anyone who has been a bench option all season except for injuries. I just don't understand it from a Chelsea, Tottenham or Gallagher perspective

With the rate Bissouma picks up cards and players pick up injuries we need depth in the 3 midfield roles

6: Bissouma, Bentancur
8: Bentancur, Sarr
10: Madison, Lo Celso, Kulu

Skipp and Hojberg aren't up to being part of what we are trying to build towards. Gallagher fits in nicely into the 6 and 8 rotation. The 3 we've got above who are up to the level can't hold the 2 roles down on their own.

Especially if we have an extra comp next season to play for

It doesn't seem an obvious move to me, I just can't see him agreeing a move without some sort of indication that he'll be a regular starter.

I wonder if he could play a more attacking role?

Sounds like we’re off loading Gallagher for a premium. Great business for us.
