DDG was the highest paid goalkeeper in the game but his performances have steadily declined to the point where he can no longer be guaranteed a starting position, and the new contract offer reflected that. It is disappointing that he didn't get a proper send off but what was the club supposed to do differently?

a bit more respect for a bloke who was there for 12 years and just flicked off on the uncontracted list? sort his future out positively or negatively before the end of the season, and dont give him the kirk van houten cracker factory farewell
 
A number of factors have led to DDG's less than ideal exit from United:

  • His own very poor late season form
  • Uncertainty over the transfer budget available
  • Uncertainty over the takeover

If point 1 doesn't happen then he stays. If point 2 and 3 are resolved then DDG isn't left in the lurch.

You won't find any United fans who disagree with this. My point was that it wasn't possible for the reasons which Bojan has outlined here:
