Didn’t they offer him a contract though?

Why not offer in January and if he didn't want to sign by March then announce he's leaving then so that fans can celebrate him?

They had been doing that though, and up until the final few weeks of the season all the talk seemed to suggest that an agreement wasn't far away for him to remain as #1 for next season. Unfortunately for DDG his massive drop in form forced the club to reconsider whether he was up to remaining as first choice.

It is brutal, and we all hate that Dave doesn't get a well deserved send off, but it is 100% the right decision for the club to not move forward with him as our #1.

Thought that was evident long before his late drop in form.

It's a shame but it is what it is now.

At his peak he was phenomenal. Almost unrecognisable to his recent form. Never thought I’d see such an undignified exit for a player of that calibre.

You're right, it was evident but my thought process (and I think this is true for most United fans as well) was kind of along the lines of we've got bigger problems to cover before considering a new #1. By the end of the season the drop off was just so severe that it went from being a problem for another day to one of our most pressing concerns.

If he was born 5-10 years earlier then he'd go down as one of the greats. Unfortunately, in the last 5-10 years, being able to play the ball out from the back has become just as important as being a great shot stopper. Not having the ability to play the ball out from the back and the evolution of tactical pressing has resulted in Dave not having a place at the pointy end of the elite level any more. I still have great memories of him. Shame that his peak came at a time when the club was in turmoil on and off the pitch.

Yes he was a keeper caught right in the middle of the goalkeeping revolution. As an old school shot stopper, he was ****ing ridiculous at times.

Will never forget that match at The Emirates in 2017. I believe it was a joint PL record, 14 saves were credited to him. 14. Some stock standard ones in there however Arsenal genuinely could have (or should have) scored 6-7 that day. Yet somehow United walked away 3-1 winners. The double save from Lacazette and then tipping Sanchez’s rebound over the bar was utterly ridiculous.

To see what he was reduced to in recent times, comparative to his peak, it’s extraordinary that’s the same keeper.

He was certainly right about Raya to Spurs.
He was.

All he said was personal terms between player and club agreed. Which you wouldn't have the inside info to be able to refute.
Talks between clubs on price. Which we ultimately couldn't agree on so not the new GK signing.

Probably time to stop chomping on so many L's.

I thought of you as soon as I hit “post reply”. :D
Was a reference to it not being a total done deal despite agreeing to terms. Deals can always fall apart/not happen even when terms are agreed
