It’s ridiculous a player can earn £700k a-week to kick a ball around in Saudi Arabia when a top end AFL player earns that in a year.

In front of a couple of thousand of people paying 10-20 bucks each to watch them.



I guess it's a good thing we don't have a government run by a royal family that will happily plunder government money away on an unsustainable competition all for the purpose of image building.

As the economy of Saudi Arabia is about the same size as ours and they have 10 million more people the person who loses out big time from the sportswashing is the everyday person in Saudi. The money has to come from somewhere.


While personally I'd love it if our government funded a PL standard competition here in Australia (and we are much better setup for it with our season aligning with Europe / sporting infrastructure) it really would not be acceptable for our government to commit so much money to it.


This is why I can only see the Saudi league being destined for failure. Someone, at some stage will pipe up about the money being squandered on it from within the government.

99999% of the world and could setup up his next 10 generations.

The rich are so terrifyingly scared of not being rich though that they will do anything to continue to build their wealth. We all dont know what it's like to want for nothing. Not to have to worry about bills or trying to save money for something like a holiday or the pressures of christmas time etc. They live the dream and they know it and they will do anything not to become like us again.

Having said all that. No chance he leaves.

Don't be so sure of that as the Royals are the government. They own the lot.

It would take a coup to take them out which is unlikely as all positions of power are family members. Their ministers bat down to about 5th cousins.

Yes they are but they can easily change their priorities at the drop of a hat. President Xi did exactly the same thing in China, decided overnight that splurging money on the China Super league was no longer a priority. And that was much more sustainable then the Saudi league ever will be. I wouldn't be surprised at all in a few years time to see the royals decide it's no longer worth it and let the clubs fend for themselves. Never good when a football league is reliant on government support.

Liverpool will need another few midfielders the way it is going. TBH 40m for Fabinho given his recent injury history and the like is pretty good.

I thought he was injured a lot last year, maybe I was getting him confused with Thiago. Anyway he's getting older and has had a history of muscular injuries, will certainly start to pop up soon. Not the player he was either. 40m is a good offer.
