and barely a cent will go back into the side

That sucks big time. Who do you have as keeper now? Thought after selling Gauci and youf keeper they would bring someone in. Adelaide should easily have the cash to go after someone like Langerak.

Delianov, he's been starting while Gauci's away anyway.

I wonder if Jota's agent played the Hammers. He's now going back to Saudi and will be included in the Al-Ittihad squad. Was it all just a negotiating ploy?

Hammers recruitment and who they are letting go seems a bit haphazard. Is there still a battle between Steidten and Moyes?

Jota was screwed over by the Saudis. They bought him then realised they could attract better players so signed someone else and didn't register Jota. Saudis paying him 200k per week which is at least 5 times more than what he is worth as a squad player to anyone else. That makes it really tough to do a deal with anyone. Saudis will want him out, Jota will want his money. I suspect Saudis will dick him around until he is happy to take like 5 million to terminate the contract and leave.

It was reported that Jota stayed at Al-Ittihad on the understanding that he would be now be registered as part of their squad. You might be right about his fate. I wouldn't be surprised if the Saudis dick him around and try to not pay him.

Maybe the Saudis thought they bought Diogo Jota and that's why they were so disappointed with no name Jota.

In the PL maybe.
I know you got a few in, and Stoke got a few in (my boss is Stoke), but was there much activity outside of that?

I used to remember every year, staying up with Sky Sports News on until the deadline passed. Couldn't be arsed this year.

Is that the end of the world though? I swear some (not necessarily meaning you) enjoy transfers more than the actual football at times. Clubs spending responsibly shouldn't be moaned about, as most of the news outlets seem to be trying to stoke up (because of course it's shit for them when they can't farm clicks).

Only two Championship clubs didn't make signings, and across the EFL there was a ton of activity.

Not the end of the world. But clubs not buying anyone doesn't make for the most entertaining transfer deadline day.

Not sure it's a case of clubs spending responsibly any way. I think the current rules take that judgement out of clubs hands.

A real shame for me, that a club that has the money (be it earned or through investment) can't spend it on trying to be better.

I wonder if Amazon wouldn't have got off the ground as a business if FFP/PSR was a part of their industry.

You just know that half the fan base who read that first tweet were getting their Levy out posts prepared

Bit of a strange comparison as sports leagues are incredibly different to any other industry.

I know, but I don't like this idea that making a loss over three years automatically equates to spending irresponsibly. Amazon lost money for years, but it's what made them a financial behemoth.

Particularly when the rewards for spending under the current rules are so great.

But apart from the finance side of things, it's great as a fan to see new signings. There's that illogical hope that they'll be the guy that will send you to the top.

Is this guy taking the piss again or is he seriously this naive? Was he even ever a football fan?

How many football executives, agents, owners are actually football fans? His career choice doesn’t mean that he‘s a football fan.

You think working at the head of sport he doesn't give a shit about makes sense?

I get your point, and you've seen it first hand how it can be great.

But there's countless tales of it going wrong and clubs losing money for years trying to grow and ending up in the absolute shit and collapsing.

Heck even to a lesser degree everton in recent times without being relegated, it hasn't been pleasant for their fanbase with the uncertainty around ownership. And even now whether 777 partners have a clue about football.

For every city football group and Russian Chelsea sportswash, there's 3 or 4 Parma, Fiorentina, Leeds, Rangers etc.

It's not even about allowing another City, I still remember staying up late to see we'd signed the likes of Damarcus Beasley and Nerys Castillo. And loving it, it's a great part of being a fan.

FFP/PSR is a different issue imo. I'm all for clubs being protected, and having rules in place for that to happen. I'm not sure FFP achieves that, and it certainly hasn't stopped clubs going bust through bad management. Leeds, for example would have passed FFP if it was in place, and at that point I was posting on here about how much in the financial shit they were.

But that's been done to death, my point is that I'm not sure we should be celebrating clubs not signing anyone. For me it's a win for accountancy over sport.
