Sometimes coaches don't rate certain players for whatever reason. In the last 12 months they have bought three centre halves (Kim Min Jae, Dier, Ito) for the best part of £75m so maybe they want to claw some money back to spend elsewhere. They bought Upamecano the season before buying De Ligt as well. 5 CB's doesn't go into 2 starting positions and De Ligt, Kim Min Jae and Upamecano would expect to start every week.

Think the knock on him previously was he was too slow, but amazing what a couple of seasons under Xabi Alonso can do I suppose.
