This sounds more like a 5m loan fee with an option to buy for a further 20m than a loan with an obligation to purchase.

You would imagine a contract had already been agreed with a genuine obligation to complete the transfer.

Wages were always going to be the sticking point as we were never matching the United contract. You would think United may have to give him a golden handshake to get him off the books.

Strange that there would be any negotiations at all on a purchase obligation.

It's no longer an obligation if terms need to be discussed. Utd have let him go on the cheap, if his agent is good he gets a juicy sign on bonus.

Heap of red flags about Gyokeres, why are no good clubs in for him?

Probably depends where he wants to go. PSG are European champions and and seem well set in attack. Bayern have Kane. Real Madrid and Barcelona both seem set in attack.

That leaves the PL. Manchester United are a mess (Is Amorim enough to turn his head?). Chelsea? Liverpool might not want to mess with a title winning squad. City have Haaland. Arsenal seem like a good shout. Newcastle United have Isak (Swedish teammate) and they are cash rich, so a wildcard.

I reckon things will heat up at some stage this month for him.

Lewa isn't exactly a spring chicken.

Imports from the Portuguese league are historically very hit and miss.
I’d say that might be the case but don’t overlook any country/league. We’ve bought Ronaldo, Nani and Bruno, all directly from Sporting Lisbon and been very happy with all of them.

We’ve also bought Brazilian footballers and have managed to come away with Anderson, Kleberson, Antony, Andreas Pereira, Alex Telles and a 48 year old Casemiro. I don’t think we should stop buying Brazilian footballers because we’ve been unlucky.

It’s hit and miss.

He did well in England previously though.

*in the Championship.

Same story, some leagues are very hit and miss in terms of players being able to adapt to and thrive in the Premier League. Even very prolific ones.

I think people are right in being cautious about pinning their hopes on Gyokeres.

He's very weak in the air and excels at being about to run into space or at defenders up high. Two things that get found out real fast in the EPL.

He screams flop to me and I'm not surprised no big clubs are after him.

Sure, just pointing out he hasn't just been prolific in Portugal. 21 in 46 in the Championship is usually good enough to earn a look in at PL level (Smodics, Armstrong, BBD off the top of my head who didn't then step up particularly well but did go to struggling sides). Mbeumo for instance only had 8 in his last C'ship season and stepped up well.
