Good fee for Guehi, but hes not a 300k a week footballer imo.

I think we get 20% of the fee so thats a little bonus.

Context.

You are paying Sterling £325k, James £250k, Fofana £200k per week.

On that basis I don’t think it’s too bad, it’s obviously high, but it’s also likely factoring in a pro rata sign on bonus he would have received/foregone in 6 months.

A decent sign on bonus wrapped into his wage is probably worth £30k per week across his contract length.

Probably makes him the second highest paid defender in the PL behind Van Djik (£350k per week), which is understandable given Man City probably saved £40m on him with his contract situation.

The difference in wages between he and Saliba or Dias is about £8m across his full contract, so Man City well in front.

Interesting side story with this is that JSL agent is former Norway Int. Tore Pederson, who is a massive Leeds fan, often found in our kop end and goes to away games etc.

Talk is he might have opened an otherwise closed door.

We are tight with PSR however until the end of the year reset.

Will probably require a sale.

Yeah, you cant make mistakes with these size wages or you are stuck with the player for the life of his contract.

So what? The real risk is much lower.

They have £40m of wriggle room vs real cost.

The risk here is major injury or form. But the same reality would have been the case had they paid £70m for him.

The difference between his current wage and say £150k, is £30m, so even then well ahead.

So in real terms he’s on £100k per week…..

City’s biggest issue is more having to report wages vs transfer fee amortization and how it might effect them with their total budgets moving forward.

Thats not true anymore is it?
I think it still is true. Haaland is on over 500k, Salah 300k. City have 10 (about to be 11) players over 200k, Liverpool 6. There is still a gap.

Add to that Liverpools investors are seeking to make a dividend out of the club, City's investors are there for whole other reasons. Liverpool do not have unlimited investment into the club, City are only restricted by what they can get away with. yada yada

Now do average wage of the starting and 2nd XI's for both squads for each of the past 5 seasons, or just this season.

I think the insinuation of the original post was that Liverpool don't pay that level of wages, they do.

Just not across as many players.

Salah, Van Djik, Isak, Gakpo, Wirtz, Ekitike are all on huge wages in global terms.

Isak has one of the highest gross wage liabilities in world football remaining to be paid.

City's wage bill over the past decade has been much bigger. After a period of success Liverpool have somewhat bridged the gap with their top end (Salah and Van Dijk's are almost lifetime achievement awards for club legends) so that the past decade of results are capitalised on - but do an average wage analysis of the first + second XI and you'll still note a big difference. Which is probably why the club wasn't going to hand a player like Guehi 300k+ a week.

Like I said, the Guehi wage is inflated as he was owed a signing bonus in 6 months and went for unders.

What’s better, a £20m transfer fee and £300k per week?

Or a £100m transfer fee and £220k per week?

I'd still be interested in the average wage of each side's first and second XI to see how much Liverpool have closed the gap in recent years. This is a better indication of what they can offer incomings in general. You're pretty good with numbers, so maybe you can help me.

100 million for Guehi was a beautiful joke though. I appreciated that.

I was actually referring to Isak or Etikeke there.

If Guehi was on a new contract of about £100k pw with years on it, he’d have demanded £70m imo
