Im annoyed some of that garbage hasnt been sold yet.

Maybe there's no interest?

Or maybe such garbage is more content to sit around earning wages they couldn't dream of getting elsewhere.

embers, who of your squad players would be up for transfer, and more to the point, players who would drop divisions?

surely most would be on too high a wage

Aston Villa have tonight confirmed they have rejected a “renewed offer” from Liverpool for midfielder Gareth Barry.
Reds manager Rafael Benitez has already had three bids for the 27-year-old turned down by Villa, who today disciplined Barry for speaking out against manager Martin O’Neill.
A statement on the club website, www.avfc.co.uk, said: “The report in today’s paper of a £17million offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate.
“The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa’s evaluation, and has subsequently been rejected.”

God stuff Villa!

Not really. Apart from LBM most of our garbage would be on low wages and easy to offload. The reason we cant offload them yet is because most of them are injured still. While Freddie is on abit the rest are not. Our wage ceiling is 50k which our best player Ashton earns.

Gabbidon, Davenport, Bowyer, Zamora, Quashie, Wright, Spector, Etherington would all be on low wages (lower then 30k). LBM is the only dead weight on high wages but im sure the fact we boo him every time he touches the ball will be enough for him to take a 20k paycut elsewhere.

They've banned him from the club. He's burnt his bridges, there's no going back now.

So I'm not sure why they're still rejecting a ridiculously good (way over the top) offer.

The fact he hasn't put in a formal transfer request is pretty shit though.

It's now time to walk away. If they want to miss out on 15m for a player worth about half of that, then good luck to them.

They need the 15m too I'd imagine. After spunking a ridiculous 10m on Curtis Davies, they need a fair bit of coin to increase the squad depth substantially, given the increased number of games they'll have.

Rejecting the 15m may make them look like heroes, standing up to the big boys and all. If you want that, thats fine. Not good business though when you consider how handy that 15m will be.

If it doesn't come off, fine. Keep Xabi. Not bothered really.

Exactly. Fact of the matter is Liverpool dont need Barry. Infact IMO they are better off without him. Liverpool would be best off offering 8 mill + 2 players (Finnan and Hobbs) and let that be it. Its not like Barry is the worlds greatest central midfielder. Liverpool should walk away now. Then Villa are really ____ed :D

Looks like we are very close to signing Gudjohnsenn from Barca for around 4 million. Seems like he chose us over Newcastle. Smart move. I imagine he will get more gametime with us.

Anton is all but gone which is sad but if hes replaced by someone young and good then I wont mine. His attitude has always been poor despite his obvious talent

And the fact LBM has outwardly stated he wants to move will help.

Bowyer and particularly Quashie might have wages close to that mark.

Bowyer yes, Quashie, hell no. Ah Quashie where art thou. 60 mins in 20 months. I still think hes dead. Just the autopsy is taking longer then expected.

Arshavin has agreed personal terms with Chelsea according to reports.

Surprise, surprise.

Joe Cole was last seen running away from Stamford Bridge screaming "Mummy".

Arshavin IN = No more Joe Cole

I still cant believe Man City paid 19 mill for Jo. Hes a alright player but with the service he gets at CSKA my mum would be more then capable of knocking in 20.

A good player but you pay 19 mill for a world class superstar. Something Jo isnt.

I'm not so sure he would.

He'd be a regular starter for us too I'd imagine, probably just not as a striker, which may be his preferred position?

Time will tell, it's a lot to pay but he does have good pedigree and has scored wherever he's played.

I disagree with the world class superstar bit too, it seems that theres plenty of clubs nowadays prepared to pay big money on potential, or even a good season (see Adebayor).

Risky, but rather £19m on Jo than less than a half of that on the price on the likes of Chopra, Kamara, Bellamy etc who you know aren't going to be good enough.

is perfectly suited to a CF or CAM type role.. he is actually pretty creative and i'd imagine his stint with us would have helped that side of his game dramatically

Yeah if he came to us I'd imagine we'd be playing him either on the wing or in the CAM role.

I'd hope he wouldn't start over Martins anyway, and there's no way he'll be starting over Owen since he's our captain.

I'm liking Tottenham's transfer activity very much.

Modric, Dos Santos and reportedly highly interested in Bentley.

I think they are quite weak in midfield defensively. Huddlestone is decent, if they can find a decent cheap defensive midfielder partner (makelele) i think they could have a nice 4231 side.

----------------------GK-----------------------

-Hutton-------King---------Woodgate----Bale

--------------Huddlestone-----Makelele-------

--------Bentley--------Modric--------Dos Santos--

-----------------------Berbatov------------------

still have jenas, lennon, malbranque, kaboul, keane etc on bench

Handy bench.

Yes, yes it is. Liverpool is basically one of Villa's competitors in the 2nd league.

What on Earth makes you think it was a 15m bid?

Liverpool have acted fairly poorly in this transfer period and I have enjoyed the way that Villa have handled themselves. Barry certainly isn't worth the 17m but neither was Carrick at the time and Man Utd ended up paying it.
