David Bentley - "I watched the Champions League Final and of course that's the sort of match I want to play in. Every player when they start their career wants to reach the top of their game and I haven't done that yet."

Tottenham seems the logical choice then?!?

Didn't think anyone could work the transfer market like Sparky did but Ince is filling his shoes quite admirably.

Carlos Villaneuva on loan for 500k with an agreed transfer fee of 3.5mn in January at the option of Rovers. Am tipping this as the value for money buy of the summer as was Santa Cruz last summer.

Jermaine Pennant to replace Bentley with one of Marco Bresciano, Steven Davis, Sebastian Larsson or Keith Andrews (can't see him stepping up from League Two to Premiership in one go).

while a report on Monday suggest the Reds could be tempted by a £15million bid for Barcelona striker Thierry Henry.

He wouldnt, would he??

I'd think of all of our ex-players he'd be one of the most unlikely to do that. I think he has too much respect for not only Wenger but the club as well.

I do see him leaving Barcelona at the end of this season though.

Calderon: Real close on Van der Vaart
30 July 2008 | 21:52 - PA Sport

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon claims the club could sign Hamburg star Rafael van der Vaart this weekend.

The Holland international has repeatedly been linked with Madrid throughout the northern summer after some fine performances at Euro 2008, and the Primera Liga champions have already had a six million euro ($A9.8million) bid rejected.

Reports in Spain suggest an improved bid of 10million ($A16.4million) has been accepted and, with the two clubs set to meet in London this weekend at the Emirates Cup, Calderon is confident Van der Vaart is only days away from becoming a Madrid player.

"That's certainly a possibility and we are waiting to come to an agreement with Hamburg," he told Spanish sports daily AS. "It's an operation that isn't causing difficulties.

"He's a player that (coach Bernd) Schuster likes a lot and he is within our range, that's true. But what we are not going to do is sign a centre-forward. This I can definitively declare.

"We have four extraordinary strikers. Raul and (Ruud) Van Nistelrooy are still the best in Europe, this will be (Javier) Saviola's year and offers of up to 25million euros are coming in for (Gonzalo) Higuain - a kid of 20 years who is of superb class.

"If a fifth striker comes in we would have to kill of one of those lads. We won't do that."

Calderon has rubbished the idea of Valencia star David Villa coming to the Bernabeu, telling the Madrid fans to "forget it".

He added: "I insist that there is no place for him even though he was a great player in the European Championship and his goals helped us become champions.

"But the fact is that we don't have space for another goalscorer."

All i can say is yummy...

----------------Casillas-----------------
Ramos---Cannavaro---Pepe---Marcelo
--------------Gago/Diarra---------------
----2 of Guti/Sneijder/van der Vaart----
--Robben---------------------Robinho--
-----------------Ruud-------------------

Bench: Dudek, Heinze, De la Red, van der Vaart, Higuain, Saviola, Raul

or 4-1-3-2 with Ruud and Raul up front....

That 1.5m get out clause at the end of the season doesn't help Hamburg.

However if he goes to Madrid, he's a ****ing looney. (which he seems to be anyway)

Why's he a looney? Guti is 31 going on 32 later this year so he only has prob 2 years of good football left... Plus Robinho and Robben are bound to get injured as well.. He's set..

I hope the Bentley to Spurs deal goes through by the end of the week.

Tottenham are essentially paying us £7m for one of our rejects. :D

Well folks, Coco Parry has done it again.

Villa wanted 18m for Barry, and we've agreed a fee of of 17.5m + Finnan. I'd laugh in sheer embarrassment if I wasn't crying already.

A stupid deal that only Liverpool (and maybe Sunderland) could be capable of making.

Paying more than the asking price. Pure hilarity.

I liked the Keane deal. Slightly overpaid, but we've got a consistent goal threat, capable of taking the pressure off Torres, a boyhood fan, someone who really, really wanted to play for us.

Gareth Barry? He doesn't give a flying **** where he goes. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or United. It wouldn't worry him one bit. Only wants CL football in order to enhance his chances of being selected for the national team.

No transfer request, no willingness to forfeit any personal gain financially to get his move.

Not to mention that we have a laughably superior footballer here already. Who sadly, will be making way.

Absolutely gutted with this, and it's one of the most ridiculous transfers I can remember in a long, long time.

Played like a ****ing fiddle.

Finnan's only worth £500k?

Blimey.

Despite his age, for a club like Villa, he would be worth about 3m I'd say. Especially with their ridiculously small squad.

Puttung the transfer in the range of 20.5m. Good lord :o

Ha that's hilarious.

Villa would be laughing all the way to the bank on that one.

Get Sidwell for 5.5M, and they've got over 10M to spend on replacements.

2 full-backs I would imagine?

I read somewhere that he is keen on a move to the US at some stage - a-la Beckham

I can imagine bus being somewhat like this after hearing about Barry.

Well, they did spunk 10m or so on Curtis Davies.

davey, not violent/sad enough.

Although Aston Villa are now saying that the deal is off.

Hooray.

I predict Barry to score a own goal vs Liverpool to give them a 2-1 victory

Apparantly Arshavins gonna join Tottenham tomorrow along with Bentley. Bentley costs 18 mill and Arshavin 18.4 million pounds. A team of...

Gomes
Hutton Woodgate King Bale
Bentley Modric Zokora Dos Santos
Arshavin Berbatov

Will end up a top 4 side IMO. Berbatov getting service from Arshavin will mean hes gonna score 30 goals next year IMO. They have received 41 mill over the past week from sales (Keane, Robinson, and the 3 sunderland boys) so youd imagine they still will have 10 or so mill to buy a backup striker and CB

Could you please stop quoting these stupid Liverpool sources and passing the information through as factual dude?

Firstly the Keane fee and now this.

Seems that whoever you're sourcing has no ****ing idea. ;)

Seacrest out.

Slightly overpaid for Robbie Keane. :D

The Liverpool fans were saying 12 mill was slightly overpaying a week ago. 7 mill extra and they are stil only slightly overpaying... As I said they could sign Osama Bin Laden for 5 million and still call it a bargain

No we weren't :D

Keane did come though. Was always happening. The fee was interesting. But even when it didn't look likely, it was always happening. Happened a while before we signed him too I'd say. Waiting for them to sign Arshavin, it looks.

The Barry stuff was just from mainstream media. No sources to speak of.

That attack is better than Liverpool's. Multi dimensional and creative.

Liverpool still has a better midfield.

Tottenham's defence will be most interesting.

If their defence holds up and actually performs as a unit (for once) they're more than capable (talent wise) of finishing ahead of Liverpool.

Woodgate and King, hold up? :D

I'll dip into another charity bet and say that we will definitely NOT finish below Tottenham.
