I'm sure he's a player with lots of quality, but 9.5m on a defender, who still has to adjust, is a big gamble.

Hopefully for Newcastles sake, it pays off.

It's a lot of money on a defender, however top class ones are hard to come by, especially when in our position.

Ashton is 5 years younger, is English and has shown alot. Finally fit too which is nice. Ah the striker. Its like oil atm. People paying over the top because they are too lazy and dumb to look for a alternative

Keane is only 3 years older, is a proven performer over a long period of time, is a top professional and has the capacity to play a few games in a row without getting injured.

Ashton is younger, fatter, has dodgier hair and has only scored 13 league goals in the last two and a half years. His own fans (including your good self) were slagging him off left, right and centre less than six months ago.
