**** Tottenham, if they finish 4th I'll wear nothing but my Hammers top for a month.

I rate them but they are still a way off the big 4.

that's why people are saying that it depends on them keeping berbatov and signing a couple more needed players.

so even the people who think that's possible think it's a long way off.

like you do.

and Tottenham don't have an average midfield.

It's a level below Liverpool and Arsenal's (miles behind Chelsea and Manchester United's)
and far better than the rest.

I would say it's a very talented midfield, but an unbalanced midfield. Even more so if Arshavin arrives. Far better than the rest? I wouldn't have thought so.

A 4141 with Bentley, Modric, Jenas/Dos Santos, Arshavin behind Berbatov or Bent is outstanding. Zokora can hold midfield, ideally you'd want another defensive minded mid beside him, ie Thud. so maybe 4231? Everyone is assuming that Tottenham will be putting all their new signings straight into the first team.

No Corluka in the new team photo?

He should be playing today against AC Milan, no deals have been done although Spurs remain interested.

We haven't given Corluka permission to speak to Spurs, as I'm sure they would never indulge in underhanded tactics :D the ITK's who aren't really ITK are all indulging in guesswork and speculation.

Tough call. Id prefer Corluka at CB and Onuoha at RB.

I think Dunne and Richards has to be the first choice central pairing, while I also think Onuoha is a better centre-half than Corluka.

Moombs, could Micah ever develop into a holding midfielder? Seems a shame to waste his physical gifts purely at the back.

Came through the ranks as a goal scoring defensive midfielder, converted to centre half when he started playing reserves. I'd like to see him tried in midfield with a view to developing him as a defensive midfielder.

There is a lot of differing opinion on this on the city boards, but if you never try ...

I haven't seen enough of him to evaluate his passing, considering today's holding midfielder is generally a playmaker too. The Makelele/Gattuso types seem to be dying out somewhat.

i don't think they are dying. it's just that to play that role, ie 100% disrupter, without any creative qualities you have to be ****ing good at the disrupting part and those players are rare as. you don't see too many players that can make it into an elite midfield side based purely on their defensive qualities.

Didn't end up playing, but was at the game. Still up in the air at the moment whether he wants to leave or we want him to leave. Should know more in next day or two, still not a done deal though as far as I can see.

**** that.

If Tottenham finish 4th I'll buy a Sunderland shirt.

Everton, for instance, the team that finished fifth last season, can be backed at 200-1 to win the title. Many people, including the bookies, fancy Spurs to overtake them this season, yet for all the comings and goings at White Hart Lane and the palpable sense of excitement that Juande Ramos has generated, odds of 66-1 suggest no one expects a 47-year wait for a title to be over any time soon.

I happened to meet a Spurs fan a couple of days ago and he was genuinely excited by the season in prospect. 'This could be the year we finally do it,' he said, acknowledging that Spurs' recent history has been one false dawn after another but pinning a great deal of faith in Ramos' ability to attract and coach good players. 'I honestly think if we don't manage it this time we never will.' He was talking about finishing fourth. Not even in his wildest fantasies could he envisage his team winning the thing, or even finishing high enough to guarantee qualification for the Champions League group stages.

Spurs' ultimate dream = massive underachievement for Arsenal.

That's just too good.

Another day gone, another day without a signing. Kenwright has to leave if Everton want to progress the tight prick. Fancy bidding just 13mill pounds for Moutinho after being told they wouldnt let him go for lower than 18.

Vedran Corluka to remain at Manchester City 10/08/2008 20:25

Manchester City Football Club has put an end to the speculation regarding the future of right back Vedran Corluka.

The popular Croatian had originally been linked with a move to Tottenham, but decided to stay with City after a heart-to-heart with manager Mark Hughes.

A delighted Mark Hughes said, "I am a huge admirer of Vedran. He is a top class player with a bright future ahead of him and I am delighted that he continues to be a part of our plans at Manchester City.

"It is a real boost for everyone at the Club. Vedran is a great lad and I am really looking forward to working with him over the coming seasons."

The player, along with the rest of the first team will report for training tomorrow as the manager and squad prepare for the Thursday night’s game against FC Midtjylland in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.

Corluka's agent

Vedran is very unhappy at the events from the last few days. He would like to go to Tottenham, having been given permission to go there, and having already passed a medical and agreed personal terms.

He hopes the situation will be resolved soon so he can resume his career at Tottenham."
