At least Downing is a winger. Right now, I don't particularly care - we just need to sign one.

I don't think we'd sell for the sort of price you'd want to pay really. Unless of course he really wanted to go. I would think he'll still be with us on September 2nd.

Hamburg have said on their website that City have signed Vincent Kompany. Really happy if that is the case, but a bit surprised as I wouldn't have thought another defender was a huge priority.

Maybe brought in to play in the midfield.

I think it'll be for midfield mainly, coz as a defender only he's not even that good imo and he will be exposed against quality opposition. His skills are much better suited for midfield anyway, in the Rijkaard position.

By the way, Hamburg have stated they were very happy to sell him. He hasn't had anything going for him in the last 4 years (injuries, personal problems...), it is a bit of a gamble from City really.

I agree. He is average. I dont want him, but he is better than playing Benayoun wide left. At the very least he does stay wide and will give width but I would much prefer us go after someone else, anyone else. Even Barry! We need to buy some real quality. This is frustrating.

And Downing isn't really someone but he does have two functioning legs and can run up and down a football field. Which makes him slightly better than Benayoun. So your 15th choice midfielder will be upgraded.

I'd rather Young as well but why you have started this hate campaign against him I don't know. Downing is a quality player and I don't understand some of the crap he gets considering he's playing in an average side.
