Keanes good at what he does but hes getting on and IMO once he loses his pace hes gonna decline rapidly as a player.

Keane has never had pace, he gets by with whats between his ears.

I would have thought Spurs needs would be to find players that will help you concede less, creating scoring opportunities and scoring goals wouldn't be something that they're currently lacking at the moment. A top quality defensive midfielder, right back and centre back would have been bigger priorities if I was looking to build the Spurs squad (ooh, what a distasteful job). Cover on the wings, and replacements for Berbatov and Lennon would obviously be required if they leave.

Talk now that the price was 20m euros, so while I don't think it's a necessary signing at least the price isn't as ott as it originally looked.

Someone that can control the tempo of the game is needed though and that is hopefully what Modric can provide.

Right back is well and truely covered with Hutton.

Creative midfielder, Defensive Midfielder and a winger that can cross would have been my 3 most important signings last week. We have managed to get one of those so its a good start. Still unsure of what Huddlestone will do but he doesn't appear to be getting where he needs to be quickly enough.

I'm probably being a little homerish and not including a Cb as I sit and hope that King makes a complete recovery. Him and Woody are a fantastic pairing and hopefully Bale gets fit next season.

A GK is not much of a priority because it is a certainty as far as signings go. We know we are getting one.

Serious question here though. Why do people think Modric came to Spurs for the money? Barca have a lot more money for wages whilst we are still stuck in the 90's with our wage structure.

Oh and Embers why exactly are you surprised about the amount of money Spurs spend. We have always spent a lot, usually on crap players but it has always been a lot.

In terms of cash spent, it pains me to say, but we could be the biggest underachievers in the league. Jo Lewis our owner is in the Abramovich league when it comes to cash, but he lost loads in the Bear Stern collapse. Apparantly though it wont affect the ongoing investment in the club

So where's the greatest and sexiest man on the planet going? Arsenal? I see Wegner said he was happily enough with Walcott and Bendtner. Is he taking the piss? Villa will make Torres look like Darren Bent. Time to stop being a tightass Arsene.

Liverpool:cool:

I don't think it has been mentioned. Chelsea are apparently showing strong interest in Franck Ribery. Possibly in a deal involving Malouda.

Riberys an absolute gun, I really hope Chelsea aren't successful...

If Chelsea signed Berbatov to replace Drogba

and Ribery to replace Malouda/Lampard

and Alves.....

+ other guys (squad quality) to replace others they'll lose at the end of the season....

what a team!

Liverpool:cool:

Well, that would be a nightmare. Going to such a dirty scummy club and all.

Although the Torres/Villa combo would be unbeatable.

:D

David Villa, we're dreaming.

While clubs like Spurs are signing blokes like Modric and co. We're linked to clowns like Antonio Valencia and some Swiss fullback that hasn't been offered a new contract at Dortmund.

Totally expected while we owe some bank a lazy 350 million, including last years (+ Maschy) transfers.

If the Yanks don't go, we'll be stuck signing duds on free transfers from Wigan and co.

No DIC, no half-decent players. Maybe no CL. It's that simple.

What did Spurs end up paying for Modric? Around 16? That's a lot of money for someone from the Croatian league, granted he's got a lot of potential, but it's still a lot of money.

Nothing like Defoe or Owen IMO, he's developed into more a playmaker than just a pure finisher like the other two (no comments needed Geordies, I'll see how he goes against some decent teams before I change my assessment on Owen).

I actually don't think Owen is a pure finisher. He's more of a poacher, because his finishing is actually quite poor at times.

Madrid Make Mega Villa Offer As Inter And Spurs Look On

David Villa's future lies with Real Madrid if Marca are to be believed, but Inter are ready to joint the race to capture the Valencia striker who has himself admitted he would prefer to move to England.

The 26-year-old has sparked speculation after admitting that he will be leaving Mestalla this summer in a move that will also ease the club's reported financial problems.

Mega Offer

Madrid are ready to offer a colossal €30m plus either Esteban Granero or Rubén De la Red, while Inter have shown their hand by making preliminary enquiries about Villa.

Marca believe that the former Real Zaragoza goalscorer has rebuffed a move to Tottenham Hotspur and has been waiting for Los Merengues to make their move, which in a later report they now have.

Valencia were originally thought to be prepared to off-load Villa for around €20m, but that has now doubled and has led to Madrid having to make their incredible move.

Bernd Schuster has made it clear that he wants a powerful striker who can impress on the floor and in the air and has already admitted that he is a big fan of Jan-Klaas Huntelaar, who will be available.

Added to that the chance to make a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still in the offing, so those two are more realistic targets for the club who have no intention of buying more than one forward this summer.

Inter The Unknown

Inter may well have gawped at the current asking price, if indeed Marca's report has any substance to it at all, and could be preparing to counter that with a more realistic approach of around €25m.

The Serie A side's president Massimo Moratti was said to have been particularly enchanted by the 26-year-old's 35-yard goal against his side when the teams met in the Champions League last term.

Currently, Inter tend to operate with Ibrahimovic and Julio Cruz in attack, and Villa could potentially be in line to replace the latter in the first eleven.

However, the nerazzurri are also hot on the trail of Chelsea's Didier Drogba, so nothing can be settled just yet because the green light from Stamford Bridge could see a merry-go-round of events kick in to gear.

Hungry For England

Tottenham cannot count themselves out of the race yet either due to Villa's desire to try his luck in the Premier League. Having said recently that he would prefer to join Arsenal than Chelsea, Arsène Wenger has now stated that he does not want the player.

That leaves Juande Ramos, with whom Villa has said he would like to work, at the front of the queue of English clubs and reports have suggested that contact with Valencia has already been initiated by the White Hart Lane side.

“I think I'm made to succeed in England but of course it's one thing saying it and quite another getting there and then doing it," Villa said in April.

“The Valencia president always told me he wouldn't sell me until summer 2008. If an offer comes in I'm hungry to test myself in England.”

Also either Mancini or Ibrahimovic is expected to leave and Real Madrid and bloody Chelsea have shown interest in the latter.

As for Villa, Wenger can't be serious can he?

Wenger = Idiot.

Who the hell wouldn't want Villa. Wenger is just too tight to spend the money, he'd rather poach kids from other academies instead.

It's more a case that he knows we wouldn't win any bidding war over Villa with Real Madrid or Chelsea. Villa will go for at least £25m in the end, Arsenal have more money than Wenger lets on but not that much.

I know you aren't the richest club, but Wenger seems to refuse to spend in the market full stop at times.

Gattuso wants to come to England:

Liverpool put huge offer for Barry.. yeah cause they really need to fill that part of their team.......... Hopefully Barry is a smart man (which it looks like he is) and either stays at Villa or goes somewhere where he will be the number 1/not rotated in the Rafalution.

It was reported that we offered 10m straight cash, but that's incorrect

We've offered a 'mish-mash' of nameless players in an exchange deal for Barry, no cash involved (confirmed by Martin O'Neill)
