I think you and I have differing views about the circumstances behind his departure from United.

But with Ronaldo, at least he's honest about stating his desire to eventually play for Real Madrid.

I think he loved the club as much as anyone who has played there, but also smart enough to know that once you cross Fergie you're not going to go back.

But to each his own.

You aren't going to win championships with squad players. There's no possible way.

We would have if we had more squad players and less Eboue.

Grumble, grumble.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm not sure that Ronaldo should have his name next to Best, Robson, and Cantona. It's not a question of his ability or his performances. I just don't think he has the same love for United that the other three United legends have had.
By that token Steve Coppell's a wee bit stiff to miss out. Though he was before my time, I must admit... then again, so was Best.

Did Steve Coppell or Gordon Hill wear the #7 shirt? Some of the stuff that Hill did makes Ronaldo look like a plodder.

And what number did Willie Morgan wear?

Whilst trying to find the answers to these questions on google, I found this....

I don't think we need to spend big for our short term goals anyway, the squad is big and the first team (provided all fit..........) is quite strong.

Just need some suring up in certain areas, LW, RB and a spare striker better than Cole/Zamora wouldn't hurt or perhaps a creative midfield type. Other than that I am happy.

Need to ditch the crap though, of which there is alot.

Spot on there, I think our first priority is an attacking/creative mid of real quality. LW is an issue, another RB as back up for Neill and definitely a striker to replace Cole (keep Zamorra, when up and going is quite serviceable).

Theres definitely some dead wood that needs removing, IMO, Quashie, Boa Morte, Ljundberg, Etherington, Cole, Bowyer, Pantsil and Davenport should be seriously looked at to move on. That will make some pretty good inroads to reducing the wage bill.

The squad is pretty strong when fully fit, the biggest hole is the attacking mid.

Cardiff City have rejected offers from Arsenal and Liverpool for Aaron Ramsey, the 17-year-old midfielder who is also on Manchester United's radar. It is understood that the offers, both believed to be worth close to £5m, were turned down because Cardiff are seeking a more substantial sum up front, with the Championship club reluctant to agree a deal in which the bulk of the fee is linked closely to the teenager's development.

Arsenal and Liverpool are expected to return with improved offers but there is likely to be competition from a number of other Premier League clubs, including Everton, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

United are also continuing to monitor the situation, although the lack of first-team opportunities at Old Trafford, and at Arsenal and Liverpool for that matter, is likely to be uppermost in Ramsey's mind when he makes a decision.

From the Telegraph....

Peter Crouch, who is thought to be one of the player Benitez is prepared to allow to leave Anfield this year as the manager seeks to raise funds for new players, has decided to see out the final year of his contract at Liverpool.

The England striker, who will be able to leave for free next year, has been shocked by the £15 million price-tag put on him.

The Star reports a source close to Crouch as saying: "Peter's been treated appallingly by Benitez.

"First there's been the lack of games, then Benitez claiming Peter had been offered a new contract.

"Now comes this £15 million price-tag, which is ridiculous. The best option is to see out his last year at Liverpool and then go for nothing."

Look, he probably could've played more, but this sort of attitude is probably why he hasn't.

Rafa & Liverpool have made his career. Bought him for a large fee from a relegated club, kept faith during his shocking scoring drought, got him an Ingerlund spot.

Now he's kicking up a stink over not being allowed to leave for a pissweak fee. Obviously no-one values him at 15m, but 10-11m is a fair price, all things considered, and the 15m valuation is only to prevent us from getting screwed

7m? Not likely, pal.

Rot in the reserves then, lose your precious England place.

This rather large chip on his shoulder shows what can happen when you spend too much time hanging about with the w***ers from the English NT. ;)

Rumors that West Ham have sent a wage ceiling at 55k which was the deal Ashton agreed to. Everyone else has to sign new deals at or below that level or they will be shown the exit.

Were also trying to sign NZogbia and are close to signing this Lanzfame bloke from Juventus on a season loan

8-10 million is a fair price for Crouch. 15million is a joke.

Whose gonna pay that. 3 teams in the EPL I can see that would buy him

Bolton, Portsmouth, Boro. None whom I think have the money to spend on one player. Im actually surprised Crouch hasnt been at Liverpool long enough to buy his contract out....

You can't see Curbs buying him?

Oops, didnt see this post on the last page.

I heard that Lanzfame was a lost cause because of Palermo having a similair arrangement.

Plenty more teams that may want to fork out that money for Crouch.

Lanzfame is refusing to join Palmero. Has said that if he is transfered to Palmero hes demanding to go out on loan to us regardless. Wants to play outside the Italian league.

I think hes coming in as a pinchitter off the bench with some pace. Sears out on loan probably to a CCC club

Oh OK. That wouldn't be a bad move. So who goes, Cole or Zamorra?

With McBride gone I think its safe to say Zamora to Fulham will be back on. Hes been linked their alot of times before Hodgson came in though. Probably a ridiculous fee like 5 mill for him too. Hes exactly what they are after.

I'd really like to see Sears out on loan to the CCC as Embers said, the lad has a hell of a lot of potential.

Crouch's pricetag is a joke. Rafa is a prick for doing that, I mean surely the fat man has a brain and knows Crouch is worth half that at best? Crouch just wants 1st team football and Rafa would rather play him once every 5 games.
