Despite Drogba's age (Benzema aside - who apparently isn't for sale at this time) he's the one player Barca needs. Unquestionably.

Most impressive about Drogba is that despite occasional inconsistency - he's a big game player able to dominate the best defenders. Not just the crap ones.

When he's switched on, there's no more effective player with his back to goal.
Can be guilty of missing easy chances but his physical dominance, sometimes delicate touch/good technical ability and most importantly of all his ability to hold up play and get others involved makes him an invaluable asset.

It's arguable who's currently the world's best striker but not so much that Drogba would be pretty much perfect for Barca. Torres, Eto'o, Villa or whoever might be younger, quicker or better performed of recent but with the qualities Drogba has and the players Barca have (notably wide players and his striker partner) he's a far better fit than the others. Even Eto'o. (imo of course) That being said, why not Drogba and Eto'o?

There are some clubs Drogba wouldn't be particuarly effective (somewhere like Milan with the type of players they have and system they play) but at Barca he'd be very effective. Goals scored wouldn't appropriately measure his contribution.

As for Chelsea - anything that pushes that hack Joe Cole to the bench.
I wouldn't even welcome him at Villa on a free.

If Lampard leaves it could be beneficial to Chelsea.

He's a very good player, but I rate Deco and Ballack higher than him. Also if Chelsea land Quaresma and Ronnie they will dominate.

Shevchenko was good last season. Didn't play nearly as often as his performances warranted.

An intelligent striker who would thrive with quality creative players.

i know, i know, but isn't it putting all your eggs in the one basket? how old is he now? surely he can't carry the attack all season. Chelsea have the money so in reality if Drogba goes they need to bring in another top 5 striker.. Shevchenko's body could break down, speed and strength may disappear.. then they are rooted.. i forgot about Anelka being there i must admit (any suprise though)

all Anelka does is makes Chelsea a sexier squad.

that's about the only reason for signing him. (and keeping him this season)

Obviously Cech wont be replaced, but ever since his head injury he hasn't quite been the same. He's still elite but he makes mistakes now that he NEVER made a few yrs ago. During Chelsea's 2 yr dominance Cech was so formidable it wasn't even funny, it seemed impossible to get anything past him. I rate a GK on not their spectacular saves but on how few mistakes they make, Cech never used to make mistakes. Since his head injury he makes them, not often, but he now seems mortal. Just his judgement on coming out to crosses, getting beaten with shots he never used to, dropped balls etc etc. It wasn't that long ago i thought he was by far the best GK in the world, i dont think i can give him title anymore, as i said he's still one of the top few GK's in the world but he def isn't a tight as he used to be.
