That's the thing, people keep banging on about Liverpool being a one man team with Torres, but look what happened when Timmy went out of the side.

You went from challenging for 4th spot, to finishing a long way behind in 5th.

Same as you guys with Smith, although it was when he was playing that caused concern

I agree with you about Cahill being the sides barometer, but his absence would be too much of a simplistic answer as to why Everton slipped out of contention for fourth spot. Everton's problem lies in depth across the midfield which was highlighted by the lack of options that the club had to replace him when he got injured. The top four sides like Liverpool can replace their stars when they get injured with players that are of a quality that would start games at most other clubs in the premiership. For example, if somebody like Gerrard were to get injured then they have a player like Lucas ready to step in. When you compare this to Everton, When Cahill got injured his replacement is somebody like Gravesen (who would only get a game at a relegation battler) or Phil Neville. This problem is only going to get worse for everton as midfielders such as Carsley, Fernandes and Gravesen have moved on, leaving only four midfielders in the current squad, plus Neville and Andy Van der Mayde who I doubt will ever play again. Just replacing those who have gone out of the squad is going to cost £10mil+, which doesn't leave much funds to improve the squad from last year.
I can see Tottenham and Manchester City overtaking Everton next year simply because of their financial resources that they have which allows them to blow Everton away in both transfer fees and wages. Both of these sides can also offer the same form of European football that everton can, so everton can't use this to lure players over to Merseyside in preference to Spurs and City.
For Everton to get into the top four, Bill Kenwright would have to give Moyes £30mil+ to spend this transfer window, which is money that Bill just doesn't have.
Also get rid of Tony Hibbert, he is a CCC standard footballer at best.

Umm.. are you incapable of reading a simple post?

'People' not 'Bradsmaen'.

I glossed over it, saw you quoting me ;)

And yes, I do have reading difficulties, thanks for that

My man Kenwyne Jones is out for 8 months so Sunderland are gonna be desperate to find atleast 2 new strikers. Guarantee they pip Newcastle to Gomis.

But Villa and spurs consistently under perform. As the very old cliche goes a champion team will always beat a team of champions, not that Everton are a champion team nor do spurs or villa have champions in their squad but you get my point.

If we continue on outperforming these teams then better players are going to want to come to us.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out and if we can continue to perform like last season... aka if Timmy can stay fit.

We have underperformed once in the past 3 seasons and you have outperformed us once in the past 3 seasons.

Very consistent

Steve Sidwell to Aston Villa is the rumour and the rumoured price is £4.5million ($A9.33million)
he'll be ok. villa need to sign about eight players and that's not just me being a greedy supporter. I'll break it down later when I get a minute.

Arteta is more important to Everton than Cahill, although Cahill is important of course.

Cahill is one of the few last season who stood up when we played against the top 4 teams, scoring against Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal. He missed both games against Liverpool injured but his record against them is good also.

I know you have lost 3 players already and you had the smallest squad in the league and it looks like Barry will eventually move to scouser land. You will need those 8.

He always scores against those sides it seems ;) Scored against Chelsea and Arsenal the year before too iirc.

From what I've seen of him at Euro I wouldn't be awfully disappointed with that, especially since he'll cost somewhere in the region of £15m-£20m.

And moving to Sunderland would be a bit of a... backward move from St. Etienne wouldn't it?

Hell, coming to us probably even would be :(

Sounds like we've agreed a fee of €8m for Riise (about £6.35m)

Most of it up front, with some add ons.

Can't be Parry's doing....

And you're whinging about paying £7m for Milner.

He's not very good but I'd prefer him over Riise, and if you're getting £6.35 for him.....

I've read it is just under 4 million pounds.

Also, some reports are saying Boro have agreed a fee for Digard now of 4.5 million.

According to Sky Sports Arsenal have put in a bid for Arshavin.

That's that then.

Please, we're very likely to balls it up. Nasri was meant to be a sure thing.
