If I was you I wouldn't be getting rid of him unless you brought in a better player that plays a similar role.

He's a pretty decent player to have as back-up, can really play anywhere across the midfield and he's not a bad player.

Depends on what the offer is really. It would have to be quite good.

He's decent enough to fill in (and do a good job) against the lower sides, and give the better players a rest. Versatile and doesn't bitch and compain about being backup.

It's draining the talent pool from the smaller countries where it is so dearly needed.

What difference does it make where they're trained? If they're good enough they're still going to play for that country's national team regardless if they spend the next year or two in Holland or abroad. Messi's still playing for Argentina, still being a star for Argentina for that matter, despite never playing a professional game in Argentina and leaving while still being breast fed.

By the way, I do find that quite ironic given who you support. Do you have any idea the number of players Real Madrid have signed from abroad before they're old enough to drive over the years? Where's the outcry? The indignation? Dammit, think of the children!

I'm not so worried about the countries, more about the clubs that spend a fortune developing these kids only to lose them for a pittance to some rich, greedy English club that make them huge offers to turn their backs on the clubs that made them what they are.

If they sort the tribunal system out so clubs are paid decent compensation it wouldn't be so much of a problem. But at the moment you're forced to accept undervalued offers for your kids because you know the tribunal wont give you any more.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I do think more needs to be done so clubs get properly compensated. I can't think of too many where Arsenal haven't paid something for a player. Barazite is one but he was also cut from Ajax A2 and then had a successful trial at Arsenal. Instances like Cesc cost us a few million. Flamini chose not to sign a new deal and left on a bosman. And like I've said plenty of times on here, I'm not a huge fan of signing 15-year-olds anyway and wish we wouldn't do it. Hopefully AZ get compensated.

However, I do find it fairly ironic that a fan of Real Madrid is getting all high and mighty about us doing it when they've done the same thing countless times in their own right. Samuel Eto'o ring any bells?

With money so tight and with upwards of 10 senior players expected to released in the coming weeks to try and balance the books I didn't expect we'd spend over £1 million on an exciting young player and in doing so beat Pompey to his signature to make it even sweeter.

SAINTS SIGN SCHNEIDERLIN

Saints have beaten off competition from a string of top clubs to sign hot French prospect Morgan Schneiderlin.

The 18-year-old was yesterday reported to be heading for Fratton Park in a £1.2m deal from RC Strasbourg.

But the highly-rated midfielder opted instead for Southampton because he knows he will get more regular first-team football.

He has signed a four-year contract for a fee which could rise to 1.5m Euros. It is a major coup for Saints with Arsenal and Chelsea also reported to have been tracking the talented set-piece specialist.

He watched training this morning and was impressed by the quality of the club's youngsters. He then completed a medical and has put pen to paper in the last few minutes.

Schneiderlin, who captained the French Under 18 side, has found his opportunities limited at Strasbourg making three top-flight appearances last season and now he is looking to fully establish himself at senior level.

That played a key factor in his decision to sign for Southampton who have pledged to give youth a chance this term.

He said: "I am delighted to be signing for Southampton. It is a very good club and one where I know I will get a chance to play.

"That is the most important thing for me right now. There were other clubs interested in me but I know Southampton have a good track record for bringing through youngsters.

"I know a bit about them from their time in the Premier League and I have heard a lot about the Academy particularly with the likes of Theo Walcott coming through.

"That was a big factor in my decision along with the return of Rupert Lowe because I have heard a lot about him and I know he is a big believer in the Academy and promoting young players.

"Here you do not have to wait until a certain age in order to play. If you are good enough then you will play and that is important to me.

"It is more important than money or prestige. Right now I need to develop my career and I believe I can do that at Southampton."

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe moved swiftly to head off rival interest and was delighted to have tied up the deal.

He said: "I am absolutely thrilled we have managed to get him. There was a lot of strong competition and I am delighted we have won the race for such a talented player.

"He was persuaded to come here because of the structure we have in place and the fact he knows he will get a chance to play here.

"He is a defensive midfielder who can also play a more attacking role. He is a top quality player who is capable of scoring goals out of nothing and he will be a very good acquisition who will fit right in with what we are aiming to achieve."

Yes but when you think about it we have had some of the craziest presidents, sporting directors and coaches over the years. They would do anything and say anything to get the job. We have done the thing im having a cry about before but that doesnt mean im right or wrong.

Currently at the moment our Castilla which is our reserve team, we have 20 spanish players and 6 international players and our "C" team we have 22 spanish players and 3 international players. Hardly a billion languages is there.

Obviously the compensation situation needs to be fixed. Its obvious the clubs that develop the players should be getting more if the players are to go.

South America is not really what i was aiming at. Its mainly the big clubs in Europe and at this stage the big 4 in England. The only way smaller countries and teams from these countries are going to get better and start progressing more in big competitions is if their national leagues get stronger and there is no better way then having home groan talent leading the way. If not, the clubs must recieve proper transfer fee's for the money, time and education they put into these kids and begin their development which is crucial during their teenage years. With this money they can then re-invest into further developing their clubs and young players and continue to improve.

Terrible news for him, but it's good he was alerted of the condition sooner rather than later. Hopefully it is a fixable condition and it doesn't do to him what it did to his brother.
